  1. Quite a profound posting, Tony, and some thoughtful replies. I know exactly where you are coming from. We have two very frail mothers, both in their 90s, and I have a old friend, same age as me, in a hospice. It's a weight to bear, but the allotment does lift the spirits, both the plants and the wildlife (and I can see St. Mary's lighthouse from mine).
It's sometimes better than home, to be honest.

  2. Hey Tony,
A very touching, powerful vlog mate. Probably more than you realise.
Life is finite my friend, trust me, I know after losing my wife last year.
Our happy place was our allotment which I still work on, mainly because its peaceful and I can reflect on memories together.
We all get to meet again, but it's hard for those that gave to wait a bit longer.
Incedently I grew Japanese black truffles kast year and they were amazing.
Also grew Calabash and Belladine from Nickys nurseries.
    Chin up fella.

  3. Hey, nout wrong with that. I play 70s rock music in the tunnel :). Something you said… I remember my dad had massive arms, covered in freckles. He was a big muscular guy, and it broke me in two the day he said he had rheumatism. It was a bolt of realism! But hey, just to make you laugh… I was heaving 30 litre containers of wet compost yesterday, and my son said 'how old are you?' I told him and he said when I use a Zimmer frame he's getting a shovel attached to it 🤣. Bless him!

  4. It's worrying at our age when you notice a decline in your parents. My mum's in her 80's and we've noticed over the last year or so a real decline in her mentally. Having said that she doesn't see it. You just ask her. She's fine! Not to mention argumentative and difficult! LOL She said to me the other day, "I expect your father and that woman are probably married by now!" I said, "Mum. They got married in 1986!" to which she replied, "I know that. Do you think I'm an idiot!"

  5. Tony, are any of your seedlings showing signs of sun scorching? Mine are in the conservatory for the light and this recent spell of sunshine down here in Sussex seems to have turned some leaves crispy and a few others white/see-through. I thought it was powerdery mildew at first but some of them look burnt? The only place they get the light they need is the conservatory (I bring them in at night).

  6. Tony re the shelves in the greenhouse I had those but found they were really cold for the roots being metal changed to some plastic ones and my plants thrived just a thought yes I’m out early in pjs even wave to my neighbour

  7. I thought I was the only one out in the garden in my dressing gown checking on the greenhouse. I encouraged my dad to take on an allotment after my mum died and he was there most days even at the age of 92. He passed away last year so your video was touching to say the least. Miserere Gregorio Allegri for me by the way and Vivaldi of course.

  8. Great chat Tony, thanks for all of that. You're a lucky man to still have both parents, do make the most of the time you have with them. I'm almost the same age and have been orphaned for quite a long time now. Still "talk" to them every day about the problems with me tomatoes but it's not the same.

  9. I’m always out in my pjs ! Digging , weeding even mowing sometimes 😂 ! The greenhouse is my happy place and just sitting in there brings me peace! Wishing your mum a speedy recovery Tony x

  10. I sat down and watched this after a spell in the greenhouse potting on seedlings deciding which are the most worthy, something I never enjoy as they are all my babies! Also worrying about my Dad who is 88 and my aunt and uncle both in their 80’s, so I was quite shocked to find you in the same kind of melancholy. Our gardening our greenhouses and our age must give us time to reflect and make us better people. Chin up, you give me and countless others joy and pleasure sharing your videos with us.

  11. Is there any other way to go see the garden? Right now we have our babies in the carport, our greenhouse is a mess an I still haven’t gotten it cleaned out, too much dirt being blown in our desert area…..will catch up…..

  12. Not warm enough yet here in the mornings, but once it is you will find me wandering out in pj’s to open up my zipper greenhouses. It’s hard to watch parents get frail. Enjoy them while you can.

  13. My neighbors can tell you, I often step out to the garden in the morning in my pyjamas – I try to keep it to the back garden. The best part is to call my 90 year old mom, and tell her I was outside in my pyjamas just to get a rise out of her. Happy Easter.

  14. I can relate to this Tony. Whatever’s on your mind, gardening just helps us offload and there’s always something you find that cheers you up or something that invigorates the senses and takes you back to fond memories. No matter what the size, there is just something healing about a green space. Thanks for sharing my friend, I really enjoyed this 🌱👍

  15. I feed my chickens everyday in my nightwear, woolly hat and wellies. Wander around the garden ,notice all the little changes, just wonderful. 😊

  16. Very deep and revealing video this morning,,
I have a question,, did you leave your glasses on the shelf when you went back indoors and forgot where you left them?? 😅😅

  17. What a wonderful video. You're a very real person Tony and it's nice to hear you speak from the heart. Im sure you can see how appreciated your thoughts are. Happy Easter to you and all your mates in the greenhouse 😊

  18. Morning tony you should be proud. It’s my happy place too. We all go into our garden in nightmare slippers etc. Praps one of your subscribers can send you a couple of Shirley plugs. If I had some I would. I lost my dad last July he was 102 him and mum lived with us 9 years wen mum got dementia she passed 5 years ago then dad got it. I could only go plot for an hour every day. I used to think one day I can be here all the time. Now that I can I miss my mum and dad so much. They taught me nearly everything but they certainly gave me the desire to grow and my Nan and Aunty all green fingered. Be happy Tony you are doing amazing

  19. My normally super fit hubby Tony who cycles 40-60km 3 x week, kayaks, bush walks has recently done his back now severe sciatica and so incapacitated, earlier in year diagnosed with angina necessitating a coronary stent, were both 79 this year and it’s devastating for him. Our kids live interstate so I’m sure they’ll be as shocked as you. I hope your mums back improves sooner than later but it is a slow process. Enjoy those wonderful plants there doing great. Take care chin up.
No pjs outside the front door were too overlooked

  20. Very moving video, it really is hard seeing your parents get old and frail. I was nursing my dad this time last year, toughest gig ever. He taught me everything I know about gardening. His final tip for gardening was " just do it right son." Now my mum has covid a year later. I'm sure your parents will get better. Enjoy your Easter with your family, take care Tony.❤
