I have an allotment and put have woodchip paths, I put the older woodchip into one of my raised beds that I will use for potatoes – I am glad I am doing as you do regarding potatoes :), also your comment regarding compost I totally agree with, this year I created 3 pallet compost bays which I am hoping to fill this year (I have friends saving their grass cuttings/leaves etc for me). Another great vid btw.

Those Chantenay carrots are an undiscovered wonder. I had to leave mine in the ground over winter a few years back. Now I make sure I leave a row or two overwinter for harvest in Feb/Mar. You get carrots that taste as sweet and fresh as young ones but 8 inches in length and 4 inches wide at the top! They dont go woody either.

If you plan direct will slugs not eat them while germinating
