Edible Gardening

Forest Garden Additions | Forgotten Perennial Potato Bean | Hot Bed Issue & Spring Plantings – V5

We are Dan & Laurie and our land is called Freedom Forest – Its 3 acres in the South of England where we are creating an edible oasis and trying to provide as much for ourselves, from our land as possible and we are completely off grid.
Our food growing journey began together in 2017 when we created our first No dig lasagne bed. Every year we grow more and more and now we are currently around 60-70% self sufficient in our food needs.
Our style and methods are inspired by permaculture and we try to be thoughtful about how and what we do, to be as gentle on the planet as possible.

In our videos you can follow our journey as we share our experiences and what we get up to at Freedom Forest. We have got SO MUCH going on in this video!!! Welcome to Spring!!! We’ve got new additions in our Forest Garden, Forgotten Perennial Potato Bean, A Hot Bed issue which we’ve learn fast from, Spring Plantings, Sowings, Planting our Potatoes, Dan’s tropical challenge for this season and more ….

We are MASSIVELY grateful that you choose to watch our Videos and support us in this way, however, If you appreciate and get value from what we share and would like to help us a little more, you can become a Freedom Forest Patreon (link below).
It takes us about a day to film each video and another few evenings to edit it, Patreon provides a way you can support what we do with any size donation you wish, it could simply be the value of a packet of seeds! We have many projects coming up, as well as wanting to improve our videos with better camera equipment… maybe even a drone one day to make our videos even more detailed and better quality for you to enjoy! You can help make it viable for us to keep putting the time into making these videos by becoming a Patreon. In return your name will appear in the end credits of our videos and we’ll message you a password for the ‘members area’ of our website where we share more of our favourite recipes exclusively for our Patreon’s 💚

  1. I tried the groundnut last year but I didn’t water very well. Am waiting to see how they come up this year. Also Hopniss have you heard of it?

  2. Great video! Thanks for the update on the original hot bed – I never would have thought that it would get that hot! When it comes to the mice problem, have you thought about getting a couple of cats and letting them naturally take care of the problem? Cats create some of their own problems, but it may help your gardening for the better.

Keep up the fantastic work and making videos. I really do enjoy all of it 😊

  3. Fresh woodchip straight from a tree surgeon gets quite hot mixing that with grass and fresh manure seems to be a nice mix for me plus it makes great compost for the next growing season.

  4. How cute was Dan with his potato beans 😂 I have fallen victim to hot bed burns in past seasons – well done for figuring it out so soon, took two years of poorly tomatoes before i realised what was happening!

  5. Lots in this video. Thanks for the stuff on hotbeds. I am planning one for this winter. Peace & Plants!💚

  6. Awsome to see your Apios americana harvest! I planted some Apios tubers in a big pot just two weeks ago and I'm excited to see how they do here in Switzerland. Have you cooked them yet? 💚👨‍🌾

  7. put a thin sheet of plastic on top of the hotbed The heat will still conduct through the bottom of the trays but the ammonia gas will be forced away out the side. Peace and plants
