  1. HMM. did sack method yday-first spud attempt. I only now discovered this channel and followed Sarah Ravens advice which was 30cm compost mix to start off…now Ive run out of compost n no spare soil either really. I put x2 seed spuds per sack…is that what everyone else does cos its quite compost intensive!! Also I kow you're meant to add lots of manure if growing in ground but I want sure if I shud add to compost in sack-so I didnt?? Finally I was also planning on leaving them outside..until forecast for tonight said getting down to 1degree..now we cant move inthe kitchen or actually get to the garden as patio doors inaccessible thanks to..er..someones sacs of hopefully will be spuds!!

  2. Hey GrowVeg thx for ur reply! Yes NthEast UK. It threatened a Friday last night so I've wrapped sacks n covered their open tops with lots off bible wrap n rag rugs.14yr old daughter given the job to wrap n unwrap them…. for a negotiated fee😱 get fresh air fix during these stand lockdown days.

  3. How about this for a terrible mistake? Yesterday I planted my first ever potatoes – some lovely chitted French ones called Cherie. Sadly, I had a senior moment when I thought the chits were going to become the roots, so I effectively planted them all upside down (thankfully only 24 plants). Early, very early, this morning, I went back to the allotment and with my bare hands scooped out each one and re-interred it right side up. What a prat! But – hey! – I am learning all the time! Enjoying the sunshone now, having sown a lot more seeds in the garden…

  4. Really helpful , thank you. Have grown some last year in pots and they came out well but want to repeat the success this year and enlarge on it.

  5. On my potato’s the green foliage some is growing faster than the other plants in the same pot am I still able to earth up even though some of the smaller shoots will be covered?

  6. I used a sack and put some potatoes in it with soil on. No idea if it will work but I will update you when the season is over.

  7. can we still RE_use the soil for second batch ? Just need to mix it with compost, i guess ??

  8. Hi Ben, we planted 7 rows of potatoes. 3 rows were in their own plot and did poorly, 2 rows were planted with a row of bush beans in the center but only the beans at the end of the row sprouted and that section of potatoes did ok. The last 2 rows of potatoes that we planted with bush beans down the center did incredible! There were more potatoes per plant and the size was 4-5 times bigger than the others. We decided the only way to plant potatoes is with bush beans! Those beans did phenomenal as well!

  9. I used organic store bought potatoes. Was told they weren't sprayed with any sprout inhibitor. Worked fairly good for my first try.

  10. I made a big mistake by cutting off the foliage late summer on 2nd earlies and main crop, then completely forgetting and leaving them in the pots for over a month. Some have come to the surface and started turning green. Can I still harvest the rest without issues or should I just get rid of the lot. Keeping in mind these were my last few pots, I have managed all the other pots no problem, with harvesting them in time and have turned out beautiful. It's just these last few pots I'm concerned about and need advise on please.

  11. Nice video!
Question, how many potatoes would you recommend for a 3ft by 10ft bed?
    (~90cm by ~300cm)

  12. Just discovered your channel, subscribed…love it! You are so pleasant as well!!!!🤩

  13. Hi Ben
As you asked I like to grow my potatoes in towers.. every year I have loads of leaf material which I collect and put in towers where they compost through the winter.. and in spring I take them apart and rebuild it with same material and I like to add some compost and chicken manor.. it’s space saving and I never dig into my no-dig market garden.. later on I get beautiful forest smelling compost to spread on the beds so I call it win-win .. in winter time I just grow them in bags with some lights added to trick them, you know it’s summer time 😎
