Gateway to the Arctic is a 6-part video series documenting the 2022 month-long expedition through Canada’s barren lands. The route is designed to explore the iconic landscapes of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut by attempting to travel over 800 km from the tree line of Great Slave Lake north to the Arctic Ocean.

We would like to acknowledge and pay respect to the Akaitcho Dene and Inuit peoples whose ancestral lands we traveled through as part of this trip. We recognize that our own understanding and experience is limited, and that Indigenous peoples hold the knowledge and wisdom of their unique relationship with this land.

  1. Just for the record, bring Graham on more trips. The guy is bloody hilarious.

What an absolute grind of a few days. Made wading through the shallows to get through the ice look pleasant.

  2. i really dont want this series to end… i missed you guys so much

  3. This deserves so much more recognition and respect. I was so full of hope but also was completely gutted after watching this.

  4. That’s challenging, both physically and mentally! Can’t wait for the next episode to see how you continue. Epic adventure 😮

  5. Love these videos. Also loved seeing a quintessential Canadian repair kit of duct tape (Gorilla, of course!) and zip ties….

  6. I think if someone played the tin whistle like that around me it (or he) would end up in the lake baha. Guitar work is awesome however

  7. You guys battled HARD and I admire your persistence to push through the hard times! What an epic trip and I thoroughly enjoyed watching this! Makes me excited to get back up to the East Arm of Great Slave Lake again this summer!!

  8. My local camping shop had short pieces of aluminium pipes that fit perfectly over my broken tent pole. Just some duct tape and it was a perfect repair. Take some with you next time maybe 🙂

  9. What a slog. So tough to keep your spirits up, you four are doing amazing. Always hope that the new day brings something amazing and will keep you going. Wednesday are exciting again waiting for your next episode.👏🏻

  10. This is so interesting. You guys are not weekend warriors; this is world class. So glad you caught all this on cam. Unexpected hardships with no help but yourselves just makes this epic. The scenery is something few of us will ever get to see first hand. Respect.

  11. how does a person get to Alymer lake lodge besides canoeing in…Is there a road or is it fly in only? how did they get all the wood and equipment there?

  12. I travelled the Coppermine River 12 Days to Kugluktuk with Rubber boats. I am from Germany, fishing for Arctic Char was great. The Company Arctic Waterways had Tours in 1985. I enjoyed this trip. I was in Siberia above Okhotsk for Fishing and in Greenland for fishing.

  13. Keewaydin always attaches a second “yoke” to the carry yoke with twine and a tump. Just a straight section of wood with some grooves to aid in tying it in. Check out the book, The Keewaydin Way for that and other tips proven on hundreds of remote trips. A broken carry yoke is not good man. Also, you guys might want to upgrade your tents to Hilleberg or one of the others that set up with the fly in place. You can also set up the Hilleberg fly only, which gives you a place to boil up and relax out of the weather. The inner tent can be hung when you’re ready to settle in. Also, the Hilleberg tents can accommodate double poles in the fly tubes, which really helps in high winds. As for repairing breaks, Hilleberg tents come with a section of tubing designed to fit over a broken pole to join the two pieces together. I’m not a tent salesman. I truly enjoy your content. You guys are tough, like my boys, both of whom learned wilderness tripping at Keewaydin.

  14. I am 71 (in three days) Many trips. Stop to smell the flowers. You may never travel that way again. There are photos to take and fish to catch. If you do travel that route again the weather will be different,, the shoreline changed, the tree missing. Slow and savour every moment. I am sure Bill Farley will agree with me.

  15. I've never heard Aylmer pronounced the way you guys are doing it. I grew up in the town of Aylmer in Ontario, and there we say it very differently. It starts with a simple A (like when you say the alphabet) Smile when you say "Aylmer" and it will sound correct (to me and many more).

  16. Awesome series Guys, thanks for taking us along on your travels.
re binding with paracord, pour boiling water over it when finished and it will shrink the cord.

  17. Commenting late, cuz I’m saving you for my Sunday dinner video (top spot of the week).
Noah, I’m sure you were feeling terrible, but it’s a bit of bad luck, and a bit of youth that the planning didn’t pan out. I'm certainly no expert, ut I’ve been on a few backpacking adventures that I thought youth and strength would carry me through, but man, Mother Nature is way bigger than us.
And those "rapids"? The land was so low that I doubt they ever had enough water to not be super rocky.
And poor Alex. Of course the yolk broke when there were no trees, or wood.
Geeze, I’m so concerned how it’ll turn out. I know if it was me, and it kept being too tough, if set up on one of those lakes, and fish and relax for a while, but to not make a destination like you have? Heart breaking….the suspense is killing me. 🙂

  18. Remarkable! That rocky back river song hits hard!!! Imma be looking for the single next time I'm near Labrador!!!! Where do I find those up and coming rap artists? They were illin yo!!!

  19. Great episode. That struggle of wanting to go on but knowing you're not gonna make it really is a moral buster for sure. But glad to see you're willing to fake it till you make it to get through the crappy days. What a slog though.

  20. Aren’t these the trips that are most memorable!!!!!! Amazing hard work and the best theatrical entertainment so far😍

  21. tough situation after tough situation. Way to keep at it out there and capture it all along the way!
