Front Yard Garden

Front Yard Garden Update at Hill Cottage

And now! For yet another front yard and garden update at Hill Cottage…the new lanterns are up and the shutters down. I’m waiting on a new date plaque, the hanging lantern, and a sample for the skim coat in the porch. Yes, all the noise and mud is getting to me🤪. #gardendesign #patio #frontyard #landscaping #cottagestyle

  1. Linda don’t forget to give us a tour of your neighborhood. For us the ones that live in the west coast would love to see more of Oklahoma.

  2. You were talking about maybe changing your front door because the window lacks privacy which I completely understand. Have you thought about maybe changing the glass in the round to match the class in the other windows along the front of the house in the multi-panes windows or maybe even doing a stained glass? It’s a beautiful door and I can’t imagine that replacing it would be inexpensive. But I think it’s style is integral to the look of the house at large. Love every thing you’ve done so far and look forward to seeing the whole completed as I’m sure you are. That is, as complete as gardens ever are….😉. I’m a huge fan of you and Stewart (my apologies if I misspelled you name) and I’m always excited for the latest episode. 😁

  3. Linda Dorough Dixon, Mountain Park, Georgia…"Yikes", I just watched the Dorman home video of your former home.. I guess because she is young, she felt the garden was dated.. I hope you knew this was going to take place… I feel for you because my dad*s last home he build in Rome Ga. was the third new owner didn*t like the cedar board and batten Frank Lloyd Wright home…They took the cedar away and replaced with the siding that many older folks put on their homes. Well, dad was deceased so —I am anxious to see what she does and so excited with you and Stewart on the Cottage progress…

  4. Instead of replacing that lovely door, maybe you could install a wreath of flowers or plants in front of the window and attached to the door. A wreath would also give you more privacy by cutting down on the window visibility and make it harder for visitors to really see in the house.

  5. I like when Stuart reflects to show us a picture of those blooms you speak of!Linda love all your ideas … sure gives me something to work on our Lanscaping Projects!

  6. To answer your question of the day, three of my favorite flowering shrubs are camellia, hydrangea and loropetalum. I love everything you are doing at Hill Cottage. Thank you for taking us on this journey with you!

  7. I think it's called seeded glass on your lanterns. You've considered having leaded or stained glass to fit the window in the door for more privacy, I suppose. Stewart, April 1 is one of the very best birthdays! My daddy's! 😊

  8. Hello Linda, In response to the new carriage light gas simulated light bulbs, in order to get the look you are looking for, you might have to reorient the fixtures. Otherwise, the look of flame won't flicker naturally.

  9. I noticed, Linda, that when you were standing on the east side of the house, you could really see into the room behind you (your guest room?). Maybe it was just the camera angle, but it's something to think about, that might bother me, being so close to the street 🤔 💚

  10. The wind makes it very difficult to hear you. Anyway to buffer microphone and eliminate the loud noise? BTW the cute window that had faux shutters looks charming now!

  11. Thank you for explaining about the roof line and the wrap around shingles which is something we can't do in the Northeast with our heavy snow load

  12. I love the door!! You could add a brass ring around the glass!

  13. Hey Linda, what is the leafy row of cypress-looking trees that you have next to your snowball viburnum?

  14. I wouldn't feel good about the window in the door either. why couldn't you get some window film that mimics the glass in your window to the right of the door that would offer quite a bit more privacy?
