Garden Design

The FORMAL GARDEN Design for our Chateau.

Bonjour à tous, In this episode at the chateau the family carry on with the preparations for the formal garden ready for a visit from two amazing landscape gardens. The family get to see how the garden will eventually look with a beautiful formal layout, filled with beautiful flowers and water features, but first they have to make sure that the plants are available, so its off for a trip to the garden centre to pick a couple if key plants for the design.

About us,

We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.

The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.

Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.

Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

  1. I think you could fairly easily build the arbors. I've done the same for mine and they're pretty simple. The urns are GOOORGEOUS… and seem pricey but probably that's a good price for them. You might want to think about just building molds and doing a whole bunch of urns etc if you're not bothered about them having a pedigree. We do a lot of that for film.

  2. There is nothing to say except what an amazing, loving ,fun family you all are. Everything you do is done thoughtfully and proper. No short cuts for you lol. Love it. Even the chickens are loving it . Well done 🤗

  3. Can’t wait to see the gardens!
I hope you clean the surface of the building. The natural stone will look so great with the new garden. And once the gate and fences on the front are cleaned and painted, the plants will really shine against them.

  4. The basic plans for the walled garden and the front are already very nice and leave you wanting more. I love formal gardens myself, but I was only able to realize a small formal rose garden, or it is still in the process of being created. Gardens are planned for years. But I'm looking forward to your posts on this.

  5. I am sure Terry hasn't forgotten to consider low voltage lighting for your garden, since that will have to be installed with the hardscaped paths and walkways. I know it will be absolutely magical when it's finished.

  6. I love par terre gardens! I can’t wait to see it. Beyond the formal gardens, is that going to be orchard? Have you considered putting in a green screen to block seeing the neighbors?

  7. Suggestion for the exterior building. Combine one part bleach and one part water in spray bottle, add a teaspoon of dish soap per gallon. Spray this bleach onto all surfaces of stone. This will kill moss, mites and fungus etc. Let dry overnight. Spray off with water. Tree sap will be left behind and can be scrubbed off with more soap and water (or power washer).

  8. Let me introduce Shayne Chandler of Plant LLC on the Kitsap Peninsula in Washington state. Shayne designed my garden 13 years ago, which has been published as well as visited by Martha Stewart, Cisco Morris, Annie Guilfoyle, John Anderson (Queen Elizabeth's gardener) and many other garden enthusiast. Shayne is not just a landscaper he also travels the world collecting plants for propagation.

I have watched the show from day 1 and have been a patreon. After a lot of ideas being tossed about I asked Shayne if he was willing to design a plan for the Chateau and pay them a visit. He agreed and the zoom chats began in 2023 to firm up what the guys were wanting. My role is to encourage people to help dig holes, buy plants and to locate materials where possible. Not speaking French has it's hurdles. We found a nursery that can handle large orders for some things. 1000s of more plants to go.

As many of you know, gardens take years, many dollars and lots of sore muscles to create. Contact Terry is you are interested in volunteering. They will take good care of you.

    You can find my garden on I N S T A G R A M. There are clones…. mine ends with 125

  9. Loving those garden plans ❤ and seeing Jonathan driving the tractor was wonderful ! Keep going guys ! You’re a really joy to watch xx

  10. New follower here, getting up to speed. I live in Seattle and have seen Karen’s garden and Shayne’s designs. You’ve made a great choice in having their help, and I look forward to seeing this masterpiece unfold!

  11. Very exciting. As hard as you're working on the cottage and chateau interiors, the exterior is – in a way – just as important. The design looks lovely, and more importantly it looks manageable and not too much of a faff to maintain – you don't want to create a millstone around your necks with something that will take too much work to keep looking at its best 🥰

  12. It doesn't go right, I tried to say the chickens looked happy. I enjoyed that video was really nice but sometimes my comments don't take

  13. WOW! This project gets better every month, it is going to be just so beautiful and an absolute gem! What vision, so loving this old and forgotten property seeing a new life!
