Chita is a city in the periphery of Russia that is experiencing a major urban crisis, environmental problems and waste management issues. The city is literally drowning in garbage. At this point Chita looks like a huge landfill with occasional inhabited houses located right on it. Why the government does nothing about it, how people walk here, through waste water puddles and piles of rubbish and why it is impossible to speak about Chita without swearing? I talked to some locals to find out what they think about the critical state of Chita’s suburbs.

I don't think it's the people just being filthy it's local government not having an efficient trash management and pick up system so residents do what they have to do so the trash is not in the home but they could burn their own trash
We don't have trash pick up where we live ,but we don't just throw it in the street. We have burn barrels.
If just russians would stay in their own country solving their own problems. Mabe they should use the Wagner group, they are so good at getting rid of trash
The public health dangers in this environment are considerable. Rats, flies, sewage (maybe)–epidemics could happen anytime. Post Soviet paradise, I guess.

As an American, we have poverty but Russian poverty is next level. Russia a third-world shithole.
I had spent years cleaning outside the various houses I have had, then the bins were altered to two wk collections and limits were put on the amount of Rubbish in your bin so I stopped doing the clean up outside. On the way to our local recycling centre, I used to take any neighbour's waste just to help keep the area clean I would pick up rubbish on the way such as fly-tipping, chairs items fallen off trailers wind blown etc but then I was questioned as to where the rubbish was from and told to stop the cleaning up and only bring my own waste or I would be banned from the recycling centre. The latest is the council are trying to downsize my bin. Looks like my pride in trying to keep things at a manageable level is gone and I will have to revert to burning my waste. Well done Scunthorpe UK. Well, good luck with your mission of trying to highlight the problems you have over there. On a cheeky note can you throw Putin in the bin and elect someone better.
