  2. Just asking for clarification… several places you put that the pickets are 8' or 96". but verbally in the video, you said 72" (6' ). On Etsy, the description says 8' as well. While I did find 8' pretreated pine pickets, they are $3.98 ea here in TX. I mention the price here to compare to your mentioned price of $1.98 there. Our 6' is $1.98 though.
Would you mind confirming if you mean 6' pickets or did you go up to the 8' for this build?
Thank you so very much. 🙂

  3. Do you have any tips on what to use to plant the flowers in? If we plan on using real flowers.

  4. Just as you said we often talk ourselves out of things we can do….

    Knowledge is gold…
    But only if it's applied!

  5. Pretty sure you have stock in the fencing board community. Lol I have enjoyed all the videos in the past 5 or 6 months.

  6. Matthew, you gotta stop with these videos, man. I'm running out of excuses to not do these builds when you make them so easy looking lol.

  7. Looks great! What do the plants sit on inside the planter? I'm guessing they sit on the ground or another object to elevate them to the proper height.

  8. I mean this as the utmost of compliments, you are the BOB ROSS of woodworking. I find myself in a mesmerized trance when i watch [and listen] to your videos. You have that cool/calm demeanor that Bob Ross had and I absolutely love it!

  9. Howdy Mr. Peech.

    I love this idea/build.

I just asked this question in the comments on one of your previous planter videos, but since this is more recent, I'll repeat my comments.

Because you present your videos to the community as being a "side hustle" and to "get out there, start selling". Do you not think it reasonable that you should also include information on the "legal" side of the hustle?

How and where are these builds being sold? Craft Fairs? Etsy? Marketplace? The side of the street? Where? Where are these buyers?

Should I be charging tax? What about registration in my state for a tax I.D. number? Should we accept credit cards? How?

From the news I've read, anything entering my account over $500 that isn't attached to a company pay stub gets RED FLAGGED. They want to know where this money came from.

I'm all for making some extra cash, but as you stated in another video, a subscriber was selling over 100 planters and made $10k, but all you said was that. Did he charge tax?

Please don't get me wrong here, I'm not trying to beat ya up….but don't you agree that because you discuss selling these items that you also have a responsibility of noting in your videos "HOW" to sell them "LEGALLY"? 🤔

I absolutely love watching your "build" videos. They are informative indeed….on the build. However, because you ALSO discuss selling these things for profit, I believe you should also include the "How-to" on the LEGAL side of it. Otherwise, some subscribers can and WILL get into ALOT of trouble. So, it's one thing to say "Hey, here's how I build "this" and that's that. It's a whole other issue when you directly tell the watcher of the video to go out and sell these builds without further information on the proper way of going about doing so.

It's unfortunate, but "some" people are ignorant on the subject. If they get caught, they can say "Well this guy said I could build this and go and sell it, he didn't say I had to register for anything or charge taxes". It could happen.

I would recommend to you Mr. Peech that one of your next videos being specifically about those aspects…..or, just do a build video and leave out everything about making profit off of it.

Again, I'm not setting out to be a "troll" as it were….I admire your skill Sir….but we live in a world of hypocrisy and if there's a way for Uncle Sam to look in your direction, it's going to happen.

  10. I've been fooling around with boxes and stuff for a while with a bunch of inherited and craigslist-level tools. I'm going to be making a few planters and probably this multi-tiered planter here in the next few weeks to see if I can sell them! Thanks for making your vids so clear to follow.

  11. I have an invention that is a innovation in construction. Get ahold of me and I'll give you a hint.

  12. I started out making the 16” planters which turned out ugly. I tried this one today and must say thanks to your videos I’m getting better. Started taking my ipad down to build as you go.

  13. I am wanting to get a Kreg jig and wondering which one to start with? Advice? Thank you 🙂

  14. I like this build to demonstrate how to move into larger projects and increase woodwork confidence. Well done.

  15. I love your clips, and I've been watching them for a while. BUT: With this really neat planter, what about using it? I mean how do ya plant in it? There's no plant pot, no lining, no idea about how to use this complex contraption. I miss the second half of this build. How does my wife put it into use?

  16. Quick Question, will this still hold up outside since you used non treated or from what I can tell sealed wood for the base? The other planters you have done were all fence pickets but with the 2x2s for the base on this one I am worried about making this and having it fall apart in no time due to moisture.

  17. first thing I see is you not following your own advice and using a impact to drive the screws, not a drill with a clutch. "do as you say, not as you do?" :)😆😆

  18. Nice job. I've been in woodworking for over 20 years I mainly do fine furniture chairs and tables. Few questions about the lumber your using your description says fence pickets where are you finding perfect fence pickets like that cause at my local Lowe's and home Depot everyone I look at is cupped or bowed not flat or straight at all. If I wide belt or plane them they would end up 3/8 of and inch thick. Are you using ceder or treated? I've considered using teak to build this planter

  19. Built my side hustle wood shop on this exact planter… yours is much simpler than mine (lots of trial and error on my end). Mine has each section boxed in with a floor and lined with landscape fabric so soil can be added direct to the box. My builds are made from thick rough cut sawmill lumber, my customers love the rustic look it gives. Keep up the great work Matt!

  20. Awsome….
Looks great! What do the plants sit on inside the planter? I'm guessing they sit on the ground or another object to elevate them to the proper height. Fill the whole thing with dirt?

  21. Great stuff, I love how you keep the new material coming and the simplicity of all your projects, I discovered you a couple months before the holidays and I've probably built about 10 or 12 different projects and my situation temporary is not that great, but like you say most can be done with very basic tools, I can attest to that , I only have a drill, circular saw, jigsaw, sander and a cheap router, belt sander, oscillating sander and an ancient miter saw from the 1990's, No planer, band saw, table saw, so if anyone is intimidated by these videos of guys with fully equipped shops and all these fancy tools, don't be, they all had to start someplace, thats why I follow Mathew, he doesn't just teach you how to build something, he also share his journey and how he got to where he's at today, he basically saying, follow me, Do what I do and you'll get what I got, Thank you again brother for all you do 🔨🔨🔨🔨

  22. Another great build and video – your fence pickets look far nicer than anything I can find locally. I can't wait to give it a go!!

  23. Loving the build videos. Quick question regarding the cedar fence pickets. Obviously they are pretty rough from the store. What do you do in terms of prep? Do you simply sand? Do you have a recommended method, grit, etc.?

  24. Hey Matt,I've been following your videos for a while now, and you have done an excellent job helping woodworkers. Are you open to collaborating to share more insights and strategies on local SEO and Google Maps ranking for woodworking businesses?
