A Useful Garden Planning App (Planter)

Garden planning may be easier than ever with the Planter app. Gardener Scott shows how he uses Planter to plan and document the plants in his garden beds, learn about plant spacing and planting, and modifies the app to personalize garden information. (Video #434)

  1. Why would I use this app? When it is easy to do a much better job with google docs and the info from our local university ag school?

  2. Is it possible to create rows of plants instead of using the square foot method?

  3. I have had the free version of this app for over a year. I had no idea that I could add different varieties. You convinced me to sign up for the lifetime subscription. Thanks Gardener Scott! 😊

  4. This is so exciting! I used your code. Thanks for making gardening so accessible ❤

  5. Looks promising but am wondering, when you harvest and replant a bed, can you later look back to see what was in the bed historically?

  6. I just found a foliar spray that's essentially free.
Grind up egg shells, heat @150°F 10-15 minutes.
If you can grind to a fine texture. Put in fairly large container, just a small amount 1/2 cup of shells and add equal amount of vinegar.
It definitely will create a foam, hence the large container.
The vinegar+egg shells make calcium water soluble.
DILUTE this after the process is finished 1000 parts water to 1 part calcium.
Or just water the garden. The spray should be done about a week before flowering starts.
Second way is much the same, but feed the shell bits to chickens. You could add biochar to the grit bowl for chickens and cut down on some of the problems chickens can get.

  7. I love the free version, but with the benefits you just showed us I couldn’t pass up a subscription! Be sure to click the link in the description as you won’t be able to get the discount by going straight to the app!!!

  8. I have several 100 gallon round grow bag garden beds 4.16' diameter and 12” deep, how would I go about entering raised bed size?

  9. Hello, can u pls let me know what kind of long (actually I don’t know what is the correct name for it. I saw in your old video u use to water your plants.) thing u attached with your hose, so u don’t have to bend. Can u pls let me know from where I can buy it. I’m in Canada.

  10. When you said "and I'm doing it on my phone." It sounded like you were being sneaky or mischievous.

  11. I'll be trying this app instead of plant tags this year. I find plant tags to be a bit cumbersome.

  12. I am trying to sign up for the premium subscription in the app but I don’t see anywhere to use the code given in the video. Please help.

  13. I tried this, and it just didn't feel worth it to me unfortunately. If it reminded me when to fertilize/water and it allowed me to account for sowing for a fall/winter garden, I'd consider trying it again. Right now I can just so what it does on paper.

  14. If you buy the annual can you separate year to year? Also I clicked on the annual option but didn't see where I could put in the promo code so I'm waiting until I can figure itout. Tips?

  15. Thanks for another informative video I've been using a planning app since 2015, and find it very helpful both for each year and copying/planning year over year. Plus it gives me something do to in Feb when there's snow on the ground and I'm entertaining myself with seed catalogs…

  16. It would be great to be able incorporate user watering times and rates. As well as soil pH values, sunlight times, harvest values, etc…I think that info being used by the developer would be invaluable to the garden community as it will help guide others to get the most effective harvest based on environmental conditions. Somebody in another area, but with similar sun and water might determine they need to amend their soil more with a certain nutrient. Very exciting app nonetheless!

  17. I'm a pencil to paper type of person (and an artist) so I enjoy drawing my garden out each year and all the flower beds surrounding it. I have a big thick journal and each year I re-draw my garden and write down where each plant is planted. Along the way I draw pictures of the different flowers and plants, any interesting bugs I come across and even my chickens, cows, etc. When I get to the end of this journal I will buy another and have this one on my bookshelf. I also prefer to go out into my garden without my phone, for peace of mind and time to myself. But to each their own and that's what makes the world interesting, isn't it.
