How to Paint Easy Watercolor Leaves and Flowers Embellishing around a Quote – Valentines Gift Idea

I decided to start today’s painting with a quote from Thoreau, which I came across recently. If you’re keen to sit down to a creative session but you aren’t sure what to paint, putting a favourite quote or poem in the centre of the page can help you to get started! Having written the quotation out using a small brush I then surround it with leaves and flowers, referring to a page of flowers of different shapes and designs that I had already painted – another idea to help take the stress out of deciding what to paint!

  1. So sweet and lovely, Diane! Even though it's rainy and gray here in Florida today, it's 66F (19C) and the sun is just beginning to shine a bit. I'll send some sunny Florida weather your way!

  2. It’s partly sunny and -1 here in northern Alberta 😊. It’s supposed to go back to normal winter by the end of the week. Thank you for all of your tutorials!

  3. This was lovely and something I can use to send cards to friends. The yellow flower was a sweet surprise at the end.

  4. -16C here in Colorado this morning. Alternately cloudy and sunny. When the sun shines in our dry climate, the world seems warm and friendly, even when the temperature says "cold". But about this time every winter I am ready for short sleeve weather. Hope you warm up too soon, And thanks for the terrific quote and ideas!

  5. I love this too. I would love to be able to paint floral elements around a bible verse. Really great idea.

  6. We got snow here in West Virginia. My husband and son work together and they were on the way to work and my husband hit an icy patch and totaled his truck. They both are okay thank goodness. Jason is all upset about his truck but I keep telling him that it can be replaced. They both are okay and that’s what is important

  7. I’m inspired by this video and how you highlighted a quote with a border of your pretty doodles. Ive been playing with an idea to do this but wasn’t quite sure how to begin. I’ve become a regular viewer, with sincere appreciation, thank you.

  8. This is so very pretty and couldn’t have come at a better time. There’s p a heavy snowstorm right now expecting 15-20 cm to drop. Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦

  9. Not only is this lovely, I love the idea sheet of sample flowers! You give us so much to try and inspire us always!
    Thank you my friend. ❤️

  10. As I am watching this, it is 5pm and still 35*C. I feel like Elphaba.
Perhaps, you might consider doing a video on how you did your inspiration/reference pages, please?

  11. This is so lovely! It’s in the 60’s in Northern Calif but no flowers yet so this is welcome♥️

  12. Up to 26 in Cape Town today! However, I still want to try this. I’m putting together ideas for a “junk” journal…inspired by you!! This seems appropriate to add.

  13. If you want A.Gallo you have 5 minutes or less before there almost completely sold out storewide from the time it opens for relaunch. You have to be fast.

  14. Diane – you kind of make me laugh when you talk about how cold it is there. I lived in Germany for 10 years and I only remember it getting really really cold the winter we went to Paris on holidays – it was -21 celcius. I currently live in rural Manitoba and boy – it gets cold here. We had a bad spell before Christmas – it was in the -30's during the day and -40's at night. We are entering another Polar Vortex starting tomorrow where it will be in the low -20's during the day and the low – 30s at night. But I know that when you aren't used to the cold it seems colder than it really is. Thank you for bringing this ray of Summer into my day…

  15. It was a quiet Coffee Class for me, snowing outside, and your quotation and flowers were just what I needed! Watching you paint is wonderful learning experience for me! Thank you , Karen Dirmish

  17. Diane, this is a great idea! I know so many people that would appreciate receiving a hand painted inspirational quote in the mail. It's just lovely and very inspirational. Thank you.
