February Allotment Tour 2023 – I’m Ready for Spring!

I’ve never felt so organised and ready for spring! I’ve got all of my winter jobs finished and I’m itching to get growing for the new season. Join me on the allotment on this sunny afternoon and see the signs of spring emerging and the sounds of ice cream vans and bells in the distance. I’ll be sowing some seeds in this episode too and get up close with the blooming hellebores, crocus and daffodils.

Can you help me reach my 100,000 milestone? Subscribe and let me know where you are in the world!

  1. Hi. I have an allotment garden too. In Dutch we say 'volkstuin' (difficult to translate the exact meaning, it's like 'garden for ordinary folk'). I live in the eastern part of the Netherlands, province Drenthe. At home I have an almost South-facing window, that's where I put my seed-trays. The cayenne pepper seedlings are already growing nicely. The bell pepper seedlings are appearing too.

  2. I'm in Australia so we are just starting to head into Autumn now… I have a lupin that has a lot of leaf growth but hasn't flowered yet… will it need cutting back or can I leave it over winter? I have some Dahlia's that I've grown from seed that aren't overly big yet that I'm hoping will survive overwintering. Really looking forward to seeing all your flowers bloom!

  3. Hi Katrina , your plot is looking great and congratulations on nearing your 100K subscribers, very well done indeed, Dave in sunny Florida

  5. I've been following since you had about 8000 subscribers! 🙂 Congratulations! I wish I could follow again and add to your number hahaha Your channel brings me a lot of joy— especially since we're still sat under about three feet of snow here in Ontario. My heart belongs in England. 🙂

    Happy March, Katrina!

  7. I love watching your monthly tours, they inspire me so much! With the willow, could you start making your own arch way or frame for climbers? Would probably take a while 😅 but would look so nice!

  8. I love seeing all your spring bulbs popping through. I've got my cool weather crops started in my greenhouse and my peppers and tomatoes started in my toasty warm utility closet under grow lights. Watching from SE Ohio, USA.

  9. I always enjoy your videos. I have lupine seedlings started and plan on starting strawflowers and tomatoes today. I hope to add autumn fruiting raspberries this year.

  10. I've been on the waiting list for an allotment for ages now, no idea how far up the queue I am! Doing lots of indoor chilli growing and dipping my toe into hydroponics for the first time which helps with the frustration of waiting. Good luck this year and wishing you great crops!

  11. You give me gardening inspiration every time! Here's me heading off to work on my permaculture chicken composting system…and seed starting. (Must add more flowers.)

  12. Congratulations Katrina on reaching 100k that’s brilliant and truly deserved, here’s to another 100k and I’m sure it won’t be long xx

  13. Look out for the snow forecast for next week! Lovely allotment, only thing I’ve got growing at the moment is a lot of garlic, all looking good so far. I have a potato bag & some Charlotte potatoes. When’s a good time to plant them? We’re in Devon, edge of Dartmoor.

  14. Allotmenting in London for a project with the wonderful community at Southwark Centre for Asylum Seekers. Matador Spinach to, chitting potatoes thinking about tomatoes!

  15. Hey…Congratulations for 100k Subs. I really like your channel and I was just wondering that is there any chance for me to work with you as a video editor? I already have mailed you my profile…Kindly check.

  16. I had to recomment if there's such a word .
Congratulations Katrina on reaching the major milestone of 100,000 subscribers. Your personality comes shining through on every vlog .

  17. if you see frog or newt spawn early and theres a threat of frost try and put a piece of pollystyrene over it

  18. Thanks for the tour. Great to see spring is edging closer up there.

We are at the end of summer here in Aus – but like your winter weather, we still have the chance of some late 40° days that can cause havoc on young plants.

Change of season is always a bit exciting in the garden. You’ve inspired me to find some foxgloves and lupins to plant out for spring – it’s great to see them jumping up in your plot.

My suggestion for the willow shoots is to make a screen with them so you can hide your storage area. You can harvest withies every year for weaving or stakes for the garden.

Jobs in the garden for me this weekend are:

    – planting tatoes in tubs
    – sweet potatoes too (for the first time)
    – dwarf beans
    – onions
    – planting out daffodil and iris bulbs for spring.

Congrats again on your achievement. Bravo.

  19. Here from Oregon zone8, we have a very cold spring. My second time watching, look forward to many more.
