Hi, We’re Bec + Conor and we recently we made the massive move abroad from Australia to Canada! In tow are our 2 small kids (Tilly + Riley) and our two dogs! Our first home in Canada was at Canada’s largest Cattle Ranch in British Columbia. Now we live on 20 acres with Rocky Mountain views in Alberta (West of Calgary)!

  1. Excellent video and all very informative questions and answers. I specifically like your take Bec on F series Ford trucks. Once you guys get your Visas all straightened out, and start looking for acreages, there's some very nice land between Caroline to Rocky Mountain House, it's only another one hour + drive north of Cochrane. Has Conner ever thought about working at Fort McMurray as an electrician? They pay over $100 000.00 +/year.

  2. i didnt relize that alberta had tax on groceries. i live in nova scotia and there is no tax on most groceries here except for things like chips and cookies. necessaties like meat, eggs, milk, produce, bread etc. all that has no tax. as far as i know you guys are currect alberta has the cheepest sales taxes and i think one of the cheepest in provensial income tax.

  3. Another great video! Looking forward to the 14 things you didn't know about Canada. πŸ˜‰

  4. Always enjoy your videos and would love to see you settle into a place and set up permanently, always keeping my fingers crossed this will happen for you. Having lived in Saskatchewan for the first 30 years of my life we would take our holidays in BC, always a draw to the mountains. Also spent three years in Quebec before moving permanently to Ontario, have been through and around all the provinces with the exception of the Maritimes, hope to do that at some point, it is a beautiful country and a wonderful place to live. You have definitely covered off many questions I would have asked so looking forward to the next video.

  5. Very informative guys…big job.it’s true that you have to look at the whole package of pros and cons wherever you live.

  6. Wow the school thing is crazy. I guess I was lucky growing up in Vancouver going to elementary and secondary here. Walk to school 1 pair of shoes. No buses lol

  7. I am from Rochester originally which is about an hour north of Edmonton and you get chinooks there just to a lesser effect. So if you buy in the Red Deer area you will definitely still get chinooks but it may be a 10-degree swing rather than a 20-degree swing.

  8. You are hitting the two year mark in your journey. That is often a tough time -you've experienced a good deal of life in Canada but still have things about Australia you miss. According to some others who have emigrated here, the 2 year mark is a bit of a watershed, especially with visas, etc. and the decisions and uncertainty about whether you can stay here. I really hope things will work out for you and you get your PR status. Canadian immigration does not make it easy and because of backlogs with applications, it can be frustrating. Keep in touch with your MLA for sure. I live in Nova Scotia and the cost of living can be cheaper for some things here, but more expensive for others. Housing is not cheap no matter where you live in Canada these days. Real estate went way up here when people in BC and Ontario discovered our houses were cheaper and so many moved here during Covid. I follow a young couple who arrived from the UK just before the pandemic and settled in Ontario. They reached the 2 year mark and were very stressed about whether they could stay on, but finally, they got PR status and they were over the moon and just loving living here. You could check out Louise Ware-Armstrong. She is delightful. Best of luck –and if ever you make it to Nova Scotia – we live right beside the beach!

  9. Great video, lots of info and questions answered. As of one day love to travel all around Canada the views are amazing their the weather wouldn't bother me much as from Ireland too just wished i didn't do it 20 years ago. Its on my to do list,

  10. No,correction – peanut butter(for example)basic foods/essentials are not taxed in Canada.

  11. Fab vids as always. Looks as though you've found an amazing deal in the property you're at, and great insight for when you get your PR in terms of purchasing. Have they extended your existing visas/status whilst you're going through the PR process, or are you still within the inital stay period? (absolutely ignore this if it's not appropriate to answer of course)
