Front Yard Gardens and Patio Update

It’s a front yard and patio update in our Wednesday Walkabout today. I show the outline of the side patio, irrigation ditches in process, and more trees being planted. And a little bit of spring and edible landscaping thrown in. Enjoy! #cottagegarden #frontyard #patio #cottagestyle #bungalowstyle #springplanting

  1. I had a suggestion about the white umbrella idea. I was thinking an arbor of some sort over the area. A lot more permanent, and not total shade! Love your channel! Been watching you from another family account….❤

  2. Linda, I love the patio area in front with the heavy metal chairs but I fear the wind could whip the umbrella up and take it down the street unless it’s solidly rooted. Mine ended up on the roof one summer. 😎❤Love how you organize your manly crew!

  3. I just love your patio in the front of your home and the big window box is going to be awesome. Can't wait to see it completed so I can get some ideas. I am always excited when I see a new video come up. I plan a time when I can sit down with a cup of tea and enjoy watching your updates!!

  4. For your window box, you might consider some eggplant which will love the hot south summer sun . Peppers also would love the heat and both are ornamental as well as edible.

  5. My body requires it too. I walked around in 30 degree weather for an hour today deciding what to add and adjust in my garden, once it warms up. I can't wait to really dig in! For the white umbrella, I like the idea, but would recommend a resort umbrella with a sturdy base and can fold up tight when the wind blows. Here in Iowa, we are wide open and get straight-line winds. Resort umbrellas make a huge difference.

  6. Linda have you ever used the grow bags that I see on gardening sites? I wonder how they do for vegetable gardening?

I do like the idea of the umbrella, but does that wind ever die down?

  7. Love your rounded patio with window planter. I don't feel an umbrella is right. It would draw away from that lovely front entrance and of course make windy noise. Love the line of the front window and the the diamond group also. I do like the black metal chairs with a small cafe table. My mind keeps seeing the appletini garden in front. What do you think?

  8. Linda, I am enjoying your step-by-step landscaping and decorating of your new home. I wish I could ‘cabibulize’ with you on your new patio. It’s going to be amazing! I was wondering if you were going to put up a structure of some kind to keep the wind at bay. Is that wind a seasonal thing? I am from Pennsylvania, so I am not familiar about your weather, but I know it is windy there.

  9. So sorry to ask because I’m sure you already mentioned, I want to know why you moved, I think I heard you say that something was being built in your old neighborhood and you didn’t like that the structure would interrupt your view

  10. How much heat reflection will you get from that huge window area?

  11. A pergola or trellis sound like a good architectural detail in the front garden. I do love my white umbrella on the back patio courtyard.

  12. Hi Linda, Love the idea of edibles in the ornamental containers. Going to follow along with you and grow mine as well. Black Cherry tomatoes are one of my favorites.

  13. Everything looks wonderful 🙌 I see your vision for the front gardens . I’m not sure about a white canvas umbrella, it may blow over. Maybe a more stationary piece like a gazebo out of wood or a vintage style wrought iron that you could paint the same grey as your window trim? You could grow clematis vine in a color you like, white , maybe a soft lavender color? I get planting the violas ,just have to get our hands in the soil this time of year.

  14. Ah!
The blank canvas is becoming the beautiful vision that you have been carefully planning and dreaming about!
What I look forward to in springtime are the young dandelions.
I gather up as many of the flowers, dry them out,and use them to make a tea of sorts, often with a slice of ginger or turmeric.
And the early spring dandelion greens,I blanch them like spinach, and eat it with probably too much butter, complimented by slivered almonds,or whole cashews, and cranberries or blueberries.
    The dandelion,the misunderstood “weed”!😂

  15. I support your move 100%. You do what you have to do! But I do miss your protégé. Can you please name something a protégé in your new space, even if it’s just the window box. I’m wondering if you’re going to put in any artificial grass especially in the front along the slope?

  16. Love the fact that you will be adding veggies to your ornamental garden! Didn't call them " edibles" without adding "veggie" before it!!! Lol I am also growing my veggies in big pots and bigger tubs that are raised up on old fish thank stands that I have saved. So far they are all doing well! I am 73 and can't get on the ground to do much plant tending.

  17. I would not obstruct the view of that beautiful eyebrow window with the visual clutter of an umbrella. And since it is very windy in OKC – and on your corner – that might be a problem. Love the window box planter idea. Practicality, beauty, and privacy! A sweet bistro table would be lovely for coffee with Hubs. I like the diagonal lines reflecting the diamond window mullions in the wood pieces. The metal chairs are a little modern and just not as charming as your wood benches and chairs.

  18. Hey Linda, suggestion, tall live green wind block/protection like you planted on the east/south…..for new front patio

  19. Love love Love Red buds!!!! I have been Babying mine for over 10 yrs. I’m in zone 4/5. Video your planting

  20. Hi Linda and Stewart
I see you can’t do a retractable awning. Your umbrella idea would work fine. Just make sure it’s well grounded. They make beautiful umbrellas these days. It can be a square or rectangle one. If your table is the same shape. Get one with lights.

  21. I love your idea of veggie gardening in pots , I see that in my future . Love that your planting trees . I’m sure it will turn out beautiful!

  22. I love your choice of trees . The hollys that you planted and the redbuds are going to be beautiful .
In NJ the older established neighborhoods (like yours ) usually have at least one lilac bush per yard. Do lilacs grow in your area?
Your outdoor seating area is brilliant, and the umbrella might just give you a bit more privacy in your bathroom .
Thank you for keeping us posted.

  23. Have you thought about just extending the porch to make longer and wider on the side? This would immediately bring everything you want. Thanks for sharing

  24. I’m your neighbor in Arkansas Linda. And I’m enjoying you designing your yard. You are a plethora of inspiration and information!! Also do tell where you got your beautiful vest. I just love it!

  25. But are you putting that fake grass in? We're thinking of doing that based on your old property!
