  2. hi kaye 🤗
i started onion seeds in raised beds at thanksgiving, and then we had 6 weeks of heavy rains on & off. i don't see much growth from the onion seeds, but my garlic bulbs are growing well.
im growing walla walla, sweet white, sweet yellow and parade bunching onions. i can eat onions every day, so im hoping for a bountiful harvest. looking forward to your updates. tfs

  3. I’m getting my onions started thanks for the reminder. I also used my last years tomato seeds and have cherry and regular tomato plants getting their third set of true leaves. Never knew how before but now I can sustain veggies

  4. Good morning Kaye! I'm running a bit late on planting onion seeds too but I'm seeding the tray today. I'm also in zone 7b here in Alabama, so we still have plenty of time for them to reach maturity.

  5. Just remember the old saying. " DON'T BITE OFF MORE THEN YOU CAN CHEW. " GOOD LUCK. & STAY SAFE

  6. Ohhh I have no idea how to grow onions even with all the vidja's😆. But I have my starting stuff so let me find all my seeds and git-r-dun!!

  7. Good Afternoon Kaye – Love the colander idea for covering the seeds after planting. Hope you added boiling water to your seed starter mix to avoid the gnats taking over your indoor space. I am waiting for my starter mix to cool so will plant this weekend. I just got a small greenhouse fan to put on my seedlings a few days a week to strengthen them for moving outdoors. Do you trim your onions when they get 4-5 inches tall to help with bulb formation? Last year I trimmed them after moving them outside and I think it hurt their growth so will trim before moving outside this year. Have a wonderful weekend!

  8. Thank you for your valuable information. If you want backup on keeping the deer away, try urine. We were tormented by deer for many years at our last home. I spent a lot of money on deer deterants. We moved to another location with even more deer and I learned about how human urine keeps deer away. I would take a walk every evening pouring a stream around the perimeters of my garden and it is the best thing that I have ever used. We didn't have any deer damage until we went on vacation and that was minimal. It does not work on rabbits, but it does seem to keep bear out of our compost as well…. so far. I have read to use fresh urine for the hormones, and that male urine works better than female. I really don't know if that is true… and well-fermented urine seemed to work just as well LOL. Its free and abundant. what could be better?

  9. Hello again m'constant bloomer. I hear the wind chimes adding to the work you do, & the view that's in my mind. You explain & express your process quite well. You're a pleasure

  10. I love growing scallions. I love eating them raw too dipped in salt. It reminds me of my Dad. Here in Michigan it’s too soon, but my seeds are on the table and I’m planning. Getting excited!! Happy gardening Kaye! I’m sitting in front of a cozy fire bc it’s damp and cold to me. Yet, sunny.

  11. I remember starting onions this way when I lived in Virginia! It's so different here in the Deep South – We start our onions around September, plant them out in November, over-winter them, and harvest them in May to get large onions. If we start them now and plant them out, we get smaller bulbs, and by the time onions get up and going, it's just too hot for them to do much here.
