It is no surprise that there has been a resurgence in houseplants since the pandemic. With people spending more time at home, brightening up spaces with houseplants just made perfect sense. For those of us who have been in the plant game for a while, it has been refreshing seeing so many new “plant parents”.
Google Trends data revealed the most Googled houseplants in America by state.  According to AllAboutGardening.com, Monstera deliciosa (Swiss cheese plant), is the most popular houseplant in America in 16 states:
Alaska
Arkansas
California
Connecticut
Hawaii
Indiana
Kansas
Massachusetts
Minnesota
New Hampshire
New York
North Carolina
Ohio
Utah
Vermont
West Virginia

Ficus lyrata is commonly known as a Fiddle leaf fig. This was the second most popular houseplant for seven American states:
Alabama
Wisconsin
Idaho
Iowa
Oklahoma
South Carolina
Tennessee

3rd Place-
The Pilea peperomioides or Chinese Money Plant is perfect smaller spaces. It thrives in bright, indirect sunlight.  A Southern China native with with coin-shaped leaves and thin stems. Easy to care for and even easier to propagate via pups. A total of six states searched for Pilea peperomioides:
Missouri
Nevada
Georgia
North Dakota
Oregon
Washington

The Calatheas prefer medium to low indirect light. However, never allow it to receive direct sunlight as this can cause sunburn. There are many species of Calathea with broad leaves and colorful variegation.

The Senecio rowleyanus, now Curio rowleyanus is best known as String of Pearls. Definitely a stunner as a hanging plant. However, this vining succulent is just as lovely on a shelf or dresser.

he Chlorophytum comosum is most commonly known as the Spider plant. Perfect as a hanging plant and loves bright, indirect sunlight. Can be easily propagated via its pups.

Bamboo plants are commonly referred to as Lucky Bamboo. Perfect for low light spaces. However it will really thrive in bright, indirect light.

The Dracaena fragrans plant is commonly called the Corn Plant. Give her proper care and she will flower!

The Guiana Chestnut plant is commonly referred to as the Money tree. Supposedly this beauty is known to bring you wealth and good fortune. As an added bonus, it is pet-friendly.
