Touring an EXCLUSIVE Shack Situated in a Mountain Vineyard

Immediately captivating attention with the raw and iconic form of an exclusive shack is New Zealand’s Cloudy Bay ‘The Shack’. After burning down and being rebuilt in 2012, the guest house instils connections to its surroundings through a selection of materials and design choices by Alice Lines and Detail by Davinia Sutton. ‘The Shack’ is infused with light, outward connections and an open living approach.

With wonder and surprise, the winery tour of an exclusive shack begins with the exterior that references the surrounding environment through its chosen materiality and colour palette. Tasked to imbue the guest house with the essence of a ‘home away from home,’ both Davinia and Alice have selected warm and welcoming materials that reference different aspects of the natural surroundings. As such, a selection of timber and stone typical to the region help to provide the connection to the land. In the kitchen, Davinia and Alice have created a space of dual use. Able to accommodate to both a chef’s needs and the requirements of a family cooking space, the design of the kitchen is fit for an exclusive shack to be enjoyed by a range of guests.

Moreover, a creative individuality permeates each of the guest rooms. The Cloud Room speaks back to the estate and The Cloudy Bay label, the Mountain Room features hues found in the Richmond ranges and the River Room references the stones and textures of the local river. An exclusive shack that provides the ultimate getaway with its unique design, ’The Shack’ embodies the exuberance and beauty of New Zealand’s mountain ranges with additional views towards the ocean.

Surrounded by picturesque views, ‘The Shack’ becomes more than a mountain vineyard but a luxury escape for guests to reconnect with one another as well as nature. Through a focus on food and celebration, the entertainment spaces allow larger groups of lodgers to gather or for more intimate occasions with coupled guests. Refining the heart and soul of the building, Davinia and Alice have filled an exclusive shack with spaces of connection, warmth and celebration.
