Building an Insect Hotel for Eco-Balance

One of the biggest joys I have outside of the yarn arts we call Junk Yard Woodworking. I discovered during the pandemic, with nowhere to go, something to try was to build stuff for the yard. I started with the insect hotel.

You can see how it was built and see what the yard changed to 2 years after it was built. The thriving of the bugs and bees varies the environment significantly. Planting shrubs and trees. We don’t plant many annuals; we focus on things that come back yearly instead.

  2. Incredibly beautiful. Nearly cried at your thoughtful and moving creation. You may have crochet down to an art, but THIS….ROCKS IT ALL. Love love love you for such caring for the environment.

  3. love it!! I made an insect hotel but not so big and grand👏😍

  4. wow! i Love the bug hotel Mikey! and your yard and house and dog are beautiful too!💞

  5. What a beautitul environment you live in. The insect house is unique and creative. My only thought is that insects aren't easily controlled. Woodpeckers and termites nearly destroyed our cedar chimney.

  6. What a gorgeous space – wish I could come and sit and have a coffee and a chat with – it's a bit far from Melbourne though!

  7. Love your yard….gives me some ideas. That tall post that is next to the bug house is that all bird houses?

  8. Love your home thanking for showing us and I going to make bug hotel when grandkids are old enough to understand it not a play toy
