Killer Trees, Stinging Nettles & Paradise Pears – things going on in a Summer Australian Garden.

Bits and pieces around the property, tree fall, why am I harvesting stinging nettle and what is a Paradise Pear?

Bit about us:
The Patch is a half-acre tended block with a large vegetable garden, herb patch, over 70 fruit trees in large pots or the ground and more to come. We like to live as sustainably as possible with the cultivation of volunteer vegetable and trees, composting, rainwater harvesting and chickens for eggs and meat key to what we do. From the front yard olive and citrus grove to the back block young orchard the aim is to produce food while having fun.

  1. Hey Matt, How long did it take your pear tree to start producing fruit? Do you need frost? Same with the cherry trees at your brother and SIL’s place with the cherries and apricots? Just wondering if I could grow them here in Bundy.

  2. Geez mate that gum did a direct bullseye on the mulberry but luckily not you.
You're getting lots of productivity 👌
    Cheers for the update

  3. Hi Matt just wanted to let you know that I will be first in the queue for some of your stinging nettle seeds 😊 stinging nettles are so versatile I just have not been able to get my hands on some but now that I’ve seen you are collecting The seeds I would love to get my hands on some even though I’m in Victoria

  4. What a dream property just waiting for someone to help it blossom , literally. 🤩 Sweet potato under tomato sounds like a good plan. I think I have stinging nettle that I just discovered last week. Definitely not something we see around here usually . I'll have to post a pic and see if I'm right. I hope it us . What a super plant. Apricots and cherry, yummo. Thank you for sharing 💜

  5. We certainly do live in a country full of dangers from cucumber snakes 🐍 to killer trees and don’t forget the Drop Bears! 😱 😂

  6. Man, by the sounds of it, I'd love a Paradise Pear! Widow makers are pine trees here. Awesome property!! And great to have staggered ripening on the fruits.
We grow leeks almost exclusively for their flowers lol.
Have a great weekend Mathew, lovely tour
    Cheers J&C 🌱🌱🌱

  7. There are many weeds with really beneficial properties. Like your nettles Im cultivating a weed in a controlled area of my property, but in my case purslane. There is a great book called 'The Weed Forragers Handbook' by Adam Grubb & Annie Raser-Rowland for identification and uses. Have you tried eating your nettles? I see many do, they are one I haven't tried.

  8. How did you manage to get yourself some rain, haven’t had a drop here for weeks in the North East suburbs.

  9. G'day mate.
Really good stuff as always. I do enjoy getting to look around and seeing more of your property.
I'm sitting on an unedited video where I make fertiliser with my stinging nettles and weeds. Just never got back to complete it, but I should. Ugh, the smell when I take off the lid. 🤮
The stone fruit look great. Happy that you are not losing them to rodents like I am.

    All the best mate.
    Daz.
