  1. I send seeds to a church work in Zambia. For that I always go to Jordan seeds of Woodbury MN. I can a large amount of open pollination type (old standard types) They love nante carrots, Chinese cabbage, Danish bald head cabbage, red Russian kale, sweet Spanish onions, butter crunch lettuce, rutgers tomato and romas, are their favorites. As for me I have limited space so I will buy hybrids since I do not a lot of seeds.

  2. I have bought way too many seeds the past couple of years, and I need to actually try out some of the varieties that I never opened up. My husband likes to call me a collector, so I have no shortage of seed stash and probably shouldn’t be ordering anymore this spring, but I have to buy strawberry plants (I neglected them in the drought/heat of Oklahoma last fall), so might as well tack some seeds onto that order, right? 😂😂😂

  3. Right before the notification for this came in I was looking through seed catalogs😂. I already have “all” of my seeds for this year but between the information, recipes and inspiration, I still love to look through them all. I cut the pages that speak to me out to save them. Now if only I had a recliner!

  4. And then factor in the shipping and handling…I tried to limit orders to 3 catalogs plus my favorite potatoes from maine.

  5. Do you make all the decisions about what to plant, or does your wife have input also? I love looking at all the seed catalogs too. My wife doesn't seem to care about looking at the seed catalogs, she just says I want two different types of tomatoes, some lettuce, potatoes, green beans and a spring mix. I don't like lettuce, but I have to pick something I think she will like. I do all the planning and seed starting, while she watches from afar. She does help with the garden preparation, but it is up to me to make sure everything gets watered, fertilized etc… I don't mind at all because I am very picky about how things are done. Just wondering about your process. You are my go to for gardening info. Although I live in West Texas, and don't see the cold temps you do, a lot of the other parameters are the same. I am in zone 8a, but we have been having very cold and very hot temps lately! Thanks for all the work you put into your channel, I will be a subscriber always…

  6. Hi Scott I just subscribed been watching for a while. Iam in mid Tennessee. Looking forward to more of your great work. I enjoy the catalogs to. Do you save yours ? John S.

  7. I love to look at catalogs too. The problem is that i order my seeds early before the new catalogs show up to make sure i get what I want and then the catalogs arrive and I see so much more that i would like to try. I guess that’s just how it is. Happy catalog browsing to you!

  8. I so appreciate all of your videos, Scott! And it was really fun to hear about the relation between the catalogues and your childhood comics. One of the things I’m really trying to get the jump on right now is that I need to start thinking about milk jug vs indoor plant station germination (already!) because I am in Zone 4b/5a and our growing season is too short for direct sowing. Do you ever do milk jug sowing? What plants do you recommend be milk jug vs plant station starters? Really curious to learn more about your “how to seed” decision-making process!

  9. I tried to be prepared and did my big seed order in December. Today I bought another 6 packs of seeds. Have catalogues hit my doormat too so my purse is in trouble 😅

  10. Shooo, thanks Scott… 😂 I have got SO MANY seed catalogs, that it's almost overwhelming. Even from companies that I have never purchased from. I sat at my desk just yesterday, looking at the pictures..But, I actually am not buying any more seeds, for this year. I got some of those plastic storage boxes ( like you have) and binders with seed sleeves, to organize what I already have. Oh my! After a few hours of digging everything out of my storage chest and getting them in their sleeves/boxes, my 2023 catalog is my own binders/boxes. 😆 I also decided to take one binder with some of the sleeves, and that will be my- planted binder. Its going to help me control myself! If there isn't a sleeve for another pack to fit in, then it has got to wait. I also am printing the growing info for each seed that I'm planting, and placing it in the planted binder, so that I don't have to keep running to the internet or digging for the pack to get that info. 2023- The year of controlling myself, by starting out organized!

  11. Some of my favorite seed companies don't have hard copy seed catalogs but offer digital catalogs. MIGardener does this but that doesn't mean my wishlist isn't filled with over 400 things lol.

  12. Noticed a pretty good jump in price at my local Jung's, their home operation is in Randolph WI, only about 30 miles from me. Actually I found out the guy who started Jung's, JW Jung, back in 1907 lived to be almost 102 years old, I guess gardening really can keep you young.
Enjoy going through the catalogs, although I save many of my seeds I always end up getting more.
Noticed the book about Grant on your end table. Bought that book for my father many years ago.

  13. Absolutely brilliant! I like the connection to childhood and comic books. I could see myself there (and wondered how you were going to maintain that position on the floor, knowing that I couldn't!).

  14. Fedco is still one of my go tos – with or without color pictures – simply because it of its proximity, the ability to source seed from local farms, and that it is a co-op…

  15. New shirt available? Hmmm, Or mmmm? I've only 2 more packets of seeds I really want, but struggle with making the most of the shipping costs, so usually get more. But have got to stop at ENOUGH! LOL

  16. Who is old enough to remember viewing a Sears catalog long before the internet was a thing. I even got a thrill from fingerhut catalogs, but not the payment interest.

  17. Love the video , channeling your inner child. When you're sitting there with your blankie, I couldn't help but think, now you just need your pup curled up on the floor at your feet. Then at approximately 5:00 , there's Mala checking to make sure you're choosing the right veggies for the garden.

Here, it's back to over 70° temps, and sun burn weather sitting outside. Then realized we're closing in on 8 weeks before Last Frost date. It can be overwhelming. Might be time to bring out the comic books, instead.

Great 👕 , is it one of yours that you sell? Great color, and really like how it blended in with the wall paint.

  18. I felt myself being a little jealous watching you relax and look at seed catalogs while cold outside. It was 70 degrees here in southern New Mexico today and I felt obligated to “work” in the garden/yard today when I really needed to be planning my garden. This will be my third year to garden. Your videos help me so much. I will get online tomorrow morning and order catalogs before it is too late for me to order seeds. 😁
