  8. One way that I have found that is so simple when having to lift something like that is with an old time car bumper jack. You'll need a 3 to 4 foot medium duty tow chain, about a 2 1/2 inch bolt, 2 large washers to fit bolt and a nut for the bolt. The older jacks had a lip on them that would fit under the bumper then they came out with the jacks that had a tab on them that would fit into a slot on the bumper, either will work just fine. Set the jack on the ground, preferably on a board to give it stability a couple of inches from the board that needs lifting. Run the chain under the board that needs lifting. Make about an 18 inch loop (or circle) with the chain then place one of the large washers onto the bolt run it through the end of the chain then about 18 inches up, run it through another link then place the other washer on the bolt then secure with the nut. Lower the jack just enough to fit onto the lift lip or tab depending on the model of the jack. Slowly start jacking it up using caution and make sure there is no movement of the jack. You can literally lift almost anything with this method. It may be a little tedious, but it is far better than trying to pry something that heavy up and taking a chance of hurting oneself. I have actually removed fence posts in this same manner. I just set the jack a couple of inches away from the bottom of the fence post allowing room for the concrete to come up also. Wrap the chain around the bottom of the fence post twice then securing it with the bolt, place the chain on the jack and start jacking it up. It may take a couple of tries readjusting the jack, but it is amazing how this works with very little effort. I have removed chain link fence posts and 4×4 wood fence posts like this. Sometimes you may have to stop, release the jack and wiggle the post a bit, but it will work even pulling the concrete from the ground.
DISCLAIMER : I am not telling everyone to run out and try this, it can be dangerous if you aren't careful. You have to jack slowly and keep pressure on the jack stand with one foot. And do not get in a hurry. This is especially true when doing fence posts.

  9. Awesome video Kim, loved watching you guys work together. I have some grow bags myself here in SoCal. I like placing Saucers under them I find I get a better crop. I did set them up with irrigation late 2016. Looking forward to 2017 and see how well my new irrigation system work with grow bag. For my 65 gallon bag I'm using a Kiddie pool. Please bring your Dad back!

  10. How is your leaf compost in a bag doing? I'm saving my leaves, in black bags btw, until early Spring. Then I will do a hot compost pile and have compost in about a month. Your way is much less labor intensive, I have to say.

  11. With the leaf compost, do you just water it every week and mix it every few days? Also, do you cover it with something?

  12. So nice to see you spending precious moments with your dad. How I wish my parents were still here. Dad passed away 2 years ago and mom just 4 months ago… I miss them every day.

  13. It is nice to have family to help out. My brother comes by to help me when we have problems with our heater or hot water tank. I always give him tomato plants and pepper plant starts for his garden in return. : ) I know that is not much but He is happy to have the fresh produce in the summer. : ) Have a Great Day : )

  14. wow awesome iam so glad you got your deck fixed it definitely needed it what would you do with out the strong men around
