Clematis cirrhosa – Early Virgin's Bower

Have you ever seen a wild Clematis?

Well that’s understandable because they’re very discreet and many Clematis species are found in the mediterranean.
I was having a lovely walk in the countryside and suddenly I saw specks of white on the wall. I got close and discovered beautiful white Clematis flowers with adorable purple freckles.
It’s the winter season and not many flowers are around so falling on this flower is very special and can brighten up one’s day! To add to that, Clematis cirrhosa is evergreen so it decorates beautifully the stone walls of Mallorca all year round.

Clematis cirrhosa is not edible unfortunately. On the contrary you don’t really want to get into contact with this climber because it contains a toxic substance that can cause inflammation to the skin.
But don’t despair, it has been used in traditional Algerian medicine for a long time to treat rheumatism pains and it’s a diuretic.

So a beautiful plant with beautiful medicinal qualities.

Nature has wonderful ways of filling our lives with joy and beauty ❤️
