Finally getting around to editing and posting these videos to YouTube!
In 2021, we bought our first home and immediately opened our bell tent business. A bare basics bell tent (advertised as such) in our back garden, listed on Airbnb. We wanted to test the market before investing too much money into it – so we undersold it on the listing, provided a tent, comfortable mattresses and bedding and then oversold on the delivery. It went so well, we were nearly booked out for all the available dates we listed!
We thought: if we can sell this, and people are happy, imagine how much happier they would be if we invested more into the business and made it a real experience.
So we did!
We bought a truck load of reclaimed scaffold boards and got to work. Over the course of 4 weekends: we sanded, routered, stained and built a 8 meter by 5 meter base for our bell tent. It was physically and mentally exhausting, but so worth it.
When we finished building it, we threw a neighbourhood deck warming party with a campfire and bbq to celebrate. We loved it so much we had a real hard time putting the bell tent up, because the party was so much fun.
