Returning organic matter back to the soil – this is the whole fundament of my permaculture garden. Since the very first beginning I have been practicing this method to make raised beds and to grow soil ! The more I do it, the more I see the soil and its fertility transform.
This is the easiest and most effective way to grow food without depleting the soil and giving back to nature equally and to build a balanced system.

love and a beautiful start into this new year form India

  1. Happy New Year! You must get a lot of respect walking around with an axe in your hand ๐Ÿ˜‰ I am going to try to do a lot more chop and drop this year since I decided to move my compost piles closer to where it is needed, but I must say that yours if the perfect solution. Are the swales on a contour? Which way does the rain run down your property? It looks like you have nice red volcanic soil. Cheers!

  2. If you haven't yet done so, you might try a billhook for drop and chop purpose. The billhook is an incredibly useful and versatile cutting tool! It will make your work much easier and even more enjoyable!
Don't choose a too big and heavy billhook, nor a too small and light one, but just the right size to be capable to deal with softer plant materials, as well as with thicker and woodier plant materials such middle-sized tree branches…

  3. Most unique decisions & workouts of it. Really loved lot….thank you & a most beautiful happy new year 2023 for you madam indeed โค๏ธ ๐Ÿ™.

  4. Hi, I'm from Indonesia. I like this channel because it teaches us to eat what we plant and give it back to nature

  5. Hello dear Sarah, I have a question that might be of interest to others. In India there are also snakes, like here in Uganda. We planted passion fruit on our house like you did but people here say we shouldn't do that or else snakes will come (although they are probably so and so on our big land) What is your experience? Wonderful work you did! How do you clear your paths weeds? Our paths are constantly overgrown.

  6. I like to think of chop and drop as composting in situ, so you donโ€™t have to worry about turning piles or carting compost to where you need it. I have built the soil on my vegetable patch in this way, even my kitchen scraps go on. People use very different tools for this, saw one comment mentioning bill hook, I use secateurs and lopper for bigger stuff, or even a pruning saw. Your range of plants is so interesting. Peace and love for 2023 ๐Ÿ™๐ŸŒฑ
