I have been swimming in cold water for as long as I remember. Going out from sauna to roll in snow or to swim in icy lake in winter is something we did already as kids.
I started to swim more regularly 6 or 7 years ago. Going swimming in ice cold water was a hobby for retired ladies back then. As I watched these 70+ ladies calmly swimming through a frozen landscape, I thought that would be a cool thing to do. At first it was a quick dip for not longer than few seconds, but as I continued, soon I noticed the shock of cold wasn’t getting to me anymore.
What I like the most is actually the quiteness of the landscape, as nobody else is on the beach and I get the feeling of having it all to myself. And I love the feeling afterwards, as the blood rushes through the body and you feel all warm and fuzzy. Plus, it’s fun.
I don’t do ice bathing because I am trying to “challenge myself” or “to improve my physical and mental health”. It is a hobby like any other, and I do it simply for fun.
Have you tried ice bathing ever? Or are you a regular swimmer like me?

› ABOUT ME
I live with my family on a 2 ha (~5 acre) homestead in Southern Finland. Our home is over 300-year old heritage house and we are learning the skills necessary to restore and maintain it. When we moved here from the city, we fell in love not only with the house but with the overgrown, wild remnants of a garden. We are building the garden up again and making it an edible, flowering garden with lots of space for wildlife.

I'm impressed! I bearly can get in the water in summer 😅 hej från sverige👋
Absolutely wonderful, sitting inside my small town apartment, watching you and your son at the water and on the cliffs. I don't know if I could still take a winter dip, but I remember saunas and jumps into a Minnesota lake, a hole chopped through the ice. All I wanted to do after the sauna and dip was sleep. Fine memories of my youth. Now it is truly wonderful watching you, Nina, and watching your enthusiastic son as you enjoy a southern Finland winter. Ending with the two of you in your house, relaxed, is perfect. With my mug of hot, strong and milky coffee, a toast to Finland, Kippis!
You inspire me
Happy New Year! 🎉🎈 I was curious if over time, have you noticed improvements in your health, occurring from ice bathing?
Another word instead of bridge is dock, or floating dock.
fantastic place to go for such a cold swim 🤩
💯
amazing! yay! all the best from Switzerland 🇨🇭
Your description of your post swim experience sounds delightful! I am not sure I could get in that cold water but the beauty of Finland would tempt me. I love to garden too! Do you have a short growing season? When we lived further North I would need to use cold frames to grow vegetables. Best wishes for the New Year!
Cute how you guys have fluent conversation in both languages at the same time. 😄
Wow, the second video of yours in a row and you also are an ice swimmer. So I definitely subscribe and will appreciate next videos. I am not that much of an ice swimmer, but I love swimming and now building this hobby and habit on the Mediterranean shore. Water is around 18 now, I suppose, so no ice:) they say it will be 15 or something in January and without practice it definitely will be hard for me. So I am slowly getting used to it. It is also just a hobby, no challenges:) I got inspired by a friend of mine from St Petersburg and also by a book Outrun by Amy Liptrot.
Also your sone is <3
I just found your channel Love it. I love your house As a child we didn't heat some of the rooms in our house. I couldn't do the cold swim
“You never know what life throws in front of you.” These wonderful videos, for instance. Kiitos, Nina!
Happy New year to you as well. I swim a mile 3 times a week but in an indoor pool at 88*. I also love gardening but we just moved into a pine forest so it will look a little different now. Do you knit? I was just noticing your warm sweater.
Happy New year ,beautiful lake
