Is the Bionic Floodlight as good as it seems on TV?

Today I’m testing out the Bionic Floodlight, which is an As Seen on TV solar powered motion-activated light. There’s also some updated info on the older Bionic Spotlight that I reviewed in 2020.

  1. I really like the older one but I wish it did not have that stupid red LED blinking while it's off.

  2. That was an insane assortment of products.

Also have you reviewed that product that supposedly let you listen better by attaching what looks like a brick microphone to headphones?

  3. I thought it said "Bionic Foodlight" and I was very curious what that is. I don't have dyslexia, but I do have my moments.

  4. I really think that it is stupid when companies make something that is designed to be put outside in the elements and the emphasize that it is "waterproof." I mean I really hope it is waterproof

  5. They actually suck in real life use. Sorry. Bell and Howell means nothing anymore as far as a reputable trade name that no longer makes quality products. Yes, they are no where near what they advertise it as. Don't bother buying or send them back.

  6. I have mine mounted flush on my fence down the side of the house and works well, picks up my cats and passing cars. It’s just a good deterrent for potential thieves.

  7. I think anything with the word bionic should have the bionic sound effect the Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman had. We can do it. "We have the technology."

  8. Your comments about B&H are spot-on with my experience. They used to be a great trusted name, but now they will stick their name on just about anything. I still have my '50s era 8mm camera and projector, done in solid metals, and they still works just like they originally did. Had to replace the bulb every decade or thereabouts in the projector but it still chugs on. I haven't purchased any newer products that even lasted a year. Formerly great name now gracing throwaway junk.

  9. Solar LEDs definitely seem to work best shining down from atop. We have a some and they worked great before not so much in the new house.
Love the Bailey video! Best co-host.

  10. I just checked Amazon in the UK and this thing is selling for £71 (approx $90) so yeah for 30 bucks I might have bought it, for that price I am going to pass.

  11. COB lights are not very directional, they shine in a very wide arc. If you have them mounted on the ground most of the light is probably shining up into the sky rather than in your yard. Mounting high and shining down is a better use case for sure.

  12. I have a flood light from the same company with a different design that works great! I've been using it for several years now! Mine is mounted up high at the top of my patio and gets excellent coverage. Mine has a light in center and two adjustable wings on either side of it. Mine is in the back yard in a remote area with very few little light pollution. The star show out here is spectacular!

  13. We have the flood light and 2 spotlights for over a year and they have always worked well. We live in the country, no street lights. Need to mount them high and the only time we had an issue was with heavy snow covering the solar panel.

  14. I like the one Home Depot sells. It’s brighter than both your units. I have had it installed for two years now and it’s still works great. The Costco one lasted one week. That is when I switched to the Home Depot brand.

  15. No Batteries? Then how does it work in the dark? Huh? I bet it has LiFePO4 batteries inside that are charged by the solar panel.
It also says No Wires, but the description says it is 120 volts on the website to buy it.

  16. I have 2x Sunforce Solar Motion Activated Security Light (2000 Lumens) from Costco for the front & back dark side passage of my house. I had someone install the solar panels on the roof with the cables in the roof space. They are quite bright.

  17. I can’t seem to find how many lumens of brightness the Bionic Floodlight has from internet searches. All lights should have a lumen rating.

  18. Lol Bailey was so cute when you were walking through the backyard. She was like " what is daddy doing now? I'm just gonna keep my paw up and see what he does"

  19. “It’s got a lot more sunlight today, I’m going to test it out the front” “it seems a lot brighter out here then it did in the back yard”… maybe the amount of charge it received could have effected that? Just a suggestion 😅

  20. Is it true the more sunlight or charge from the sun, the brighter the light is at nite? The longer the charge brighter the light..

  21. But what's so "Bionic" about it? If it had a tracking system that actually tracked and shined upon a moving object going by, THEN I would say it was somewhat "Bionic". Until then … Naaahhh.

  22. When you got to the 3rd button on the the remote, I mumbled…no, don't push that! (Boom) 😆
But in all seriousness, I agree with you…the effective range appears to be only 10 feet (which isn't too bad on the ground).
It could still be used for a walkway light or small driveway. You're right, the light reflects better off man-made surfaces.

  23. When I saw the thumbnail I was intrigued since I just saw their ad again the other day (which made me think, "That's something James White would review " ☺).

  24. James keeps saying that he gets lots of requests for products.. Where is he getting these requests? Cause I've never seen them. Or are they personal emails? Just curious.

  25. Hey James, You forgot to take off the film on the old Spotlight solar panel…………………….. Great review as always.

  26. oh great, another spot light, I was hoping you would do another review on phone holders, you haven't done one in 2 weeks

  27. What makes it bionic? Why call it bionic if it's not actually in any way bionic?

  28. Seen some worse knock off versions that were terrible. The main issue with these solar lights is the kalvin rating, they're usually rated at a 6500 or 7,000 Kelvin which is very blue and not much usable light if it was a different kalvin rating of a 4,000 to 5000K it would produce much more usable light. They are built with cheap Cobb LEDs that do not have enough Coatings of film to get a very useful light output. And the higher kalvin ratings are more strenuous on the human eye.
