Thank you for joining us on this crazy journey! Our family- Kate and Marius plus our four kids, have always enjoyed living a homemade life whenever possible. Moving 1000miles north in 2017 to Northern BC, Canada upped our game even more. We live on a 34 acre homestead and get a kick out of things like raising our own meat, dairy and vegetables. Theres plenty of failures, you’ll be sure to see those here too. We’re a homeschooling family who believes life is the best teacher but we do hit the books in winter. You can find lots of real life confessions, recipes, how to’s and “The Schat Show”. Family health, natural health, cooking, natural food, whole food, recipes, parenting, kids, children, babies, faith, family life, work life balance, survival, wildcraft, keeping a family milk cow, home dairy, chickens, eggs, meat chickens, raising meat, raising pigs, fencing, dogs, cats, garden, gardening, winter gardening, short season gardening, northern living, life in winter, outdoor adventure, nature study, plant identification, rural living, food preparation, heating with wood, firewood, child training, homeschooling are all topics you will find here

  1. Well, you are blowing my mind. Now I know why I have a paper lunch bag filled with kale seed from last year.

  2. We’re in Zone 3, in Alaska. I’ve had a couple small garden successes, but putting more effort in this year. This was a super helpful video!! Please keep them coming, it’s nice to have the info explained simply & easy to digest. Love it!! 🌱💛

  3. This was super informative. Thank you. And now I will plant my cold hardy seedlings sooner. Thanks!

  4. This was a great chat! I took notes!

At 20:30, there is a bird with a two toned whistle. Do you know what it is? We have that in the mountains near us but I've never seen it yet to ID

  5. This is amazing info!Funny aside: i was counting on my fingers too!😂Then i was like DANG!That isn't long at ALL!I am sure this info is helping a ton of people and it gave me a totally different perspective to how i will start and grow an overwintering garden this year so thank you!i figure if you can grow it in Canada's really cold region, i can copy you here in Chicago for sure! Blessings of Bounty and May Your Gardens and your Life always Bring You Joy,Inspiration and Abundance!" – Hope PS Interestingly enough I also look for cold clime varieties too, Russian, Polish or northern hemisphere names!I will be growing Cream of Saskatchewan watermelons this season-with any luck!If they work,i will try to send you some seeds! h.~💖

  6. Great info!
We're zone 4a North Eastern Ontario.
We are going by our frost dates as well.
My hubby has a bunch of things in the garden already. Peas are coming up already. So excited!
I so appreciate your info. Many channels I see are for a much different climate.
Do you have any books to recommend for this info too?
Thank you and please keep these chats coming!! 😊

PS I'm also bingeing on your dairy cow videos. I have dreams.
From a fellow homeschooling, homesteading mama.
    Blessings!

  7. More gardening tip videos please!! This was mind blowing, I had to rewatch it as I plan my seed sowing indoors. Thanks!!

  8. Zone 7b US we are growing a fall and winter garden and have to hurry the end of summer garden to get in the fall garden. Will plant cool annuals earlier to give them a boost next year. However, we can grow warmth loving long season things like tomatoes, peppers, okra, summer peas, etc! My theory is that what grows in your zone is what is good for you to eat!
