  1. I think It really depends on where you live, I live in England and successfully grew some Brussel sprouts this year for the first time at home. However my Brussels at the allotment were hammered by pests, but I still ate some! 💚😁👍🙏

  2. Hey dude! I was wondering is there some other concoction that we can do similar to nettle tea for nitrogen, but instead for some other nutrient, like phosphorus or potassium? Thx 🙂

  4. Couldn't agree more, even though we love them. They also take up a lot of room and make huge tough stalks that are hard to pull and compost. And the yield for all the time and space they take, just isn't worth it. Zone 6A, MA.

  5. Thanks Jeff for another great video. I seem to have trouble with Sprouts, Not so much with other cabbage family members. I never plant them in the spring. Maybe I'll start them a couple weeks earlier than the cabbage and broccoli. Like you said, "{Timing is everything Happy New Year.

  6. Time to bring in beneficial bugs, birds or they thrive when bugs get cold and hibernate.

  7. In 2 words: Flea Beetles I can't & won't use chemicals. This past season not even the lady bugs could tackle those jumping dots.

  8. I can't think of one reason to not grow them, I know they are in the ground for a long time, anything up to nine months but once established they usually frow well, resulting in plants up to 3 feet high. Mine here in the UK went through our scarily hot summer okay, never even watered them, just left them to it.
Don't give up, plant them early in the ground, not in loose compost filled raised beds, they need to get down firm roots to thrive.

  9. 😂 I literally put down my sketch pad to watch your video. All morning I've been planning out a walk-in brassica box/cage thing. I'm determined 😝 I'll give it one more try. Envíromesh walls/roof and an added shade cloth over top for July/August. Making it collapsible for winter storage. If nothing else should be hilarious content. Old girl borrows husbands power tools and attempts math angles. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 🎊🍾 Happy New Year!

  10. We live in Texas and I grow them every fall. You have to watch them carefully. North Texas. Start indoors. Grew up in Kentucky. We had such great harvest of brussel sprouts. Keep trying if this is your favorite vegetable. I know it is mine.

  11. I am going to cover mine with tulle, and plant them earlier in Spring next time and see how it goes. The pests DO love them. They also seem to let weeds overtake them. Coming up with a plan because these are my husband's favorite vegetable. So God willing, I must be successful.

  12. I planted mine in April. Bugs ate them. Leaves came back. Still waiting. Torrential rain and heat all summer. Still waiting. Snowed all over them. Sub zero temps. Still waiting. ..

  13. Yup. I waited loads of time on them and never got anything worth talking about. I don't bother with them any longer. BUT you can harvest the tops if they don't produce sprouts.

  14. Cold frames are a great way to help negate some of the challenges of very early spring or late summer into winter plantings. Sun blocker covers are good if you get caught in the high heat of summer. But I prefer squashes, beans, potatoes, tomatoes, peas, carrots, rhubarb, strawberries, chards, spinach and pumpkins along with some herbs. With my limited space, these are the basics that I know can keep my family fed and provide a good source of food security in these uncertain times.

  15. I grew brussels sprouts a few years ago and while they did produce, they didn't taste very good. I left them in the ground until a frost or two, too. I do like eating them though, but for me they aren't worth growing myself. 4b.

  16. I think I won't be gardening this coming summer. Have just started the carnivore regime and that means no plants at all. So far after one week, which is why I'm thinking I will miss gardening, is because I'm feeling far more energy without plants and only eating meats and a fair amount of fat, lard & butter. But I will stay tuned in case this food regime isn't for me after all.
