  1. Also more tips that i couldn't fit into the video! :

๐Ÿ‘‰ Cutting/Splitting Large Seed Potatoes: Large seed potatoes you can split/cut into 2-4 pieces, each piece having an eye or 2!(Best if you cut it the day before or leave it to dry 1-2 hrs before planting to help prevent rotting!) If you have more space then potatoes, do this! I usually just prefer planting the whole thing even if it's very large, that way i get more in 1 area, if given, the soil is rich enough to support/feed it all the stems!

๐Ÿ‘‰ Chitting/Sprouting Potatoes: To encourage potatoes to chit/sprout, place them in a dark, warm place, this will help encourage it to wake up from dormancy!(the older the potato, the faster it will react!) But always keep an eye out, you leave them in the dark for long enough the sprouts might grow too long & end up skinny & weak! After they've started to chit/1cm, you can bring them out to the light, this will help stop it from growing any longer + help make it stronger/hardy before planting!

๐Ÿ‘‰ Using Store-Bought Potatoes: Store-bought potatoes are fine to use as seed potatoes. I used to plant with them the first couple of years before i discovered certified seed potatoes(i still use store-bought till today!), just know store-bought have the possible risk of carrying diseases/viruses, in turn can/will reduce yield or shorten the potato plants life! + introducing the disease/virus into your garden, affecting family-related crops like Tomatoes! For me and all the years and issues I've had with growing store-bought potatoes, I've had 80% success rate! The 20% either had black leg disease, grew extremely tiny or never grew at all! Certified so far 100% success rate! Tho certified seeds are quite pricey, so if you go with store-bought & notice any diseases/viruses, make sure to stop planting in that location & rotate your crops to prevent build up!

๐Ÿ‘‰ Grow Bags/Pots: I already mentioned this in the video, but the plastic compost/potting mix bags are just my preference/favourite to grow potatoes in + reusing it! Don't want to use plastic, use grow bags or pots/container! If you want to go with the same method, when planting, don't fill to the top of the container, leave some space so you're able to hill up/top up and/or mulch! Some gardeners plant at the very bottom & fill the pot completely to eliminate the hilling/top up process! You can still get potatoes that might pop up on the surface, so just use mulch to cover it up!

๐Ÿ‘‰ Green Potatoes: Green colouring on potatoes mean that it was exposed to sunlight! This will most likely occur when you don't hill up/top up/mulch the surface of the growing space! Some people skip it, but even commercial farmers hill up their potatoes! Small green spots on your potatoes should be fine as long as you peel/discard affected area, too much greening/dark green means you should not eat them and throw those potatoes out! Greening on potatoes contain Solanine, which is toxic to humans!

๐Ÿ‘‰ Harvesting Early for New/Baby Potatoes: The earliest you can harvest/grab potatoes is a few weeks after the flowers have fallen off, you'll have new/baby potatoes large enough for a small meal(depending how many you planted)(also will not store!), also because the plant is still growing, you can leave it/not pull it out, just dig around it to grab some, but just know, this doesn't help increase the yield! If you want large potatoes that will store in the pantry for months, let the plants die back! Also planting 1st earlies is better for the impatient xD

๐Ÿ‘‰ Still Getting No Potatoes: So did everything in the video & didn't get any potatoes still? Hmm, i might have a few troubleshoot solutions. I did stated i plant in the Spring(after last frost)/warm season, but i never mentioned Summer! Depending on your area, the Summer heat will be too much for potatoes! Potato tubers will stop growing when the soil temperature reaches 25ยฐC/77ยฐF! Also double check your fertilizer, maybe it's not balanced or the Nitrogen is still too high,(or no compost added!) the plant isn't meant to continue growing once it flowers, because at this point it's just storing energy into modified tubers that will become the potatoes we harvest! Watering will effect tuber size/production, but as long as you water the plants, you will get something!

  2. very good video , simple and well explained , i'll be sending the URL to folks out here who are seeing the hard times coming , Thank you for your work and time mate , its gonna help a lot of folks

  3. Do you pinch your flowers off. I heard they zap the plants energy that is needed for tubers?
