Instead of lawn, Allen turns the front yard into a welcoming garden patio. With stone slabs in place of grass, the yard becomes an extension of the house, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor for a true garden home feel.

  1. What is the maximum height you are going to allow for the ground cover in between the stones? I tried planting an all thyme area, but several of the thymes that were not supposed to grow more than 2-3" ended up getting 4" or more tall.

Do you intend to "mow" or trim the groundcover in any way?

  2. I love this idea. I hate grass and lawn upkeep, and my dog is allergic to it. This is perfect. It's going to look amazing once the ground cover is in there. I sure hope you'll post a video once it is. 🙂

  3. In the previous video I wondered why you used no sod but after watching this clip I fully get your rationale. I've heard that thyme gives off a lovely fragrance when it's walked on so that sounds really cool.

  4. The groundcovers I'm choosing will grow between 1/2 an inch and 2 inches, and I think we may end up trimming them but they'll be allowed to grow taller near the base of walls and trees. Great question!
