EXTEND YOUR GARDEN SEASON using EASY TUNNELS

Build a quick and easy tunnel using our method! No complicated knots required! We use these tunnels to protect from early and late season frosts and for our cold tolerant plantings if we get unexpected freezing temperatures. We also occasionally use these for overwintering plants that we put in the ground in the fall and slowly develop roots over the winter, such as ranunculus or anemone.

MATERIALS LIST:
-10′ long, 3/4″ diameter electrical metal conduit or PVC pipe (if using electrical metal conduit you will need to purchase a hoop bender from Johnny’s Seeds or other hoop bender in a 3′ bed width for this project)
-clothesline or nylon rope for “spine”
-16″ or 24″ long, 1/2″ diameter rebar (2 for each hoop) plus two additional, one for each end of the tunnel
-2″ spring clamps
-6 mill greenhouse plastic in a 10′ or 13′ width (length determined by your needs, be sure to cut about 6′ longer than the length of your bed to accommodate the ends)
-hammer or sledgehammer
-measuring tape
-UV rated zip ties

  1. 2 questions! Will I be attracting voles and how can I combat them if I don't have animals…also, on raised beds, can I not use rebar and just clamp the hoops to the outside of the bed frame? Will that be sturdy enough? My beds are only 6 inches high, zone 5

  2. Thanks! Do you have a video that shows how you open and close in late winter/early spring? Do you clap the top so sides can be opened?
