Woodturning – What Could It Be?!

I made a snowman for Christmas 2021 so I only thought it was right to make one for this year too. The body of the snowman is made from Wild Cherry, sanded to 1500 grit and finished with sanding sealer and wood wax. The top hat is made from a piece of Yew crotch from my garden, which is sanded to 10000 grit and finished with wood wax, and the nose is made from Teak sanded to 5000 grit and finished with sanding sealer and wood wax.

Let me know what you think of this piece and if you’re looking forward to next year’s snowman!

PS: Lots of Christmas-themed videos to come over the next week 😉😁

Disclaimer:
My videos are for entertainment purposes only. Some of my techniques might not be the “best” or safest, so when using any tool or machinery always read and understand safety/manufacturers guidelines first.
And Yes, I’m aware that wearing gloves while woodturning is considered an unsafe practice. The gloves I wear are tight-fitting and don’t have any loose threads. I wear them for the protection of my skin. This is a risk that I am willing to take, however I am still very conscious of the potential danger and I do not touch any spinning parts of the lathe. DO NOT copy my actions if you feel unsafe doing so.

  1. Awesome piece of art! What is the purpose of rubbing the shavings while it's still on the lathe? Sorry, I'm a newbie.

  2. Very nice Harry. In the end you were moving at Warp speed! Merry Christmas to you and your family.

  3. Cute and timely. I'm watching this on December 22nd and there is a blizzard going on outside.

  4. …very nicely done…it looks great! I also think it's a great idea to do one every year…that way you can look back over the years and see how your technique, style and ideas changed over time…🍻👍
