  1. Your stick as you call it has an old fashioned begining and a bit of history as well……..I still have in my possession from my own grandad what he called a "sounding bar"
It is a little larger than yours as it is about 2 and a half meters long and is basically a long 10mm wide piece of steel rod that is tapered to a point at one end.
It was used to find gravel beds and bedrock around creeks and areas where you had water as it requires water to really work the way it was inteneded.
By simply putting the rod into the area you want to explore and moving it up and down, you actually move the rod down through the layers, the real art is listening and also feeling what the rod is going through, heavy gravels make a harsher noise and vibrate differently, they also have a bit more resistence, where as light gravels are easier to penetrate and have a different sound and feel again, and of course bedrock gives you a resounding thump and your rod stops with a loud twang, and usually means you should check the end to make sure it has not blunted it too much!
Clay can also be explored in a similar manner, as can most areas where there is water sufficient enough to allow lubrication……
Just thought you may be interested in the sounding bars historical signifigance as I recall my pop who was an avid miner in the East gippland area saying most serious prospectors all had a sounding bar!

I had to fish one out of a long drop once.
Believe me you do not want to be head down hanging by your ankles (I'm 6ft 2) trying to grab an adult echidna burrowing in shit.

  4. 8. i think your loosing gold because of the small balls of clay picking it up as the clay is rolling around ,yes you are braking the clay up but the smaller balls of clay (grain size) are catching it as it is swished around and over the side they go, where the differant action of the gold pan is braking up the balls somewhat better, i could be wrong what do you think????

  10. It's interesting how we can become complacent in our hobbies, thinking we have a good grip on what we are doing only to find we have gathered bad habits that hinder our joy

  11. Ever thought about getting an ATV with a small bed on the back. You could get into some deeper places with the high banker and not get exhausted carrying it in.

  12. Nice pan's ! Great info !
Yuka says Thanks for the scratch .
    You're lucky, right now where I live in Alberta it's – 41 Burrr !

  22. Before I drop too many words, I want to keep it short: You guys are just AUsome in so many different ways!

Enjoy wonderful and great times with your beloved ones and you all stay safe.

  23. I am very happy to hear you express Daoist principles in your life. The journey is the reward (stolen by Steve Jobs). The destination becomes an excuse for us to experience the process of reaching it.
You have grown so much since I started watching your channel 4 years ago, when you were posting lock picking videos. Enjoy the evolution of yourself. The only constant is change. I'm very happy for you.

  24. Mate… you get grains of gold, yet declare you are getting HEAPS. Lets look at Western Australian prospectors shall we? You spend days working hard, and don't even make the minimum wage… Are you joking?

  25. A very Merry Christmas to you and your family, including The Gadzmeister.
