  1. So glad you have help. I'm 72 and widowed and live on 16 acres in southwest Louisiana. Some things I just can't do without help. Take care.

  2. Oh bless, Kaye! I've got to do this to my little raised bed today. Praying you and the kitties will be safe and warm over there in TN. Merry Christmas from Ocean Isle, NC! (We're going to get blasted for a few days, too with this winter storm!) Be well, everyone!🎄🎅🎁❤️

  3. I'm mulching up the herb spirals & putting junk blankets & tarps over the tender shrubs & potted plants later today, when it warms up later today.

  4. Good Morning smart and beautiful, the weather is to much sometimes, I moved back to Georgia 2 years ago from Lancaster , California and "WOW" what a difference. GOD BLESS.

  5. You got a helper! I’m glad you did. Very important and hard to find….a good one too. Great job Kaye

  6. Nicely done! The cats are beautiful and look like they are living their puuuurrrrfect lives! Can't wait to see the yields of the potatoes you'll have.

  7. Stay safe and warm in the Arctic front Kaye. I have today and tomorrow to get things winterized. It will be chilly but rain free. I've been prepared for power loss and there is a potential for it Thursday, into Friday morning. Freezing rain mixed with snow is forecasted.

  8. Wonderful that you got a strong young helper. You worked so hard today. Here in Wisconsin we are getting those cold temps also. Don't you love the feeling of being 'on top' of all your chores. Are you still trying to grow organically? I wouldn't even think of using 'corn' chaff in my mixes, since corn is one of the highest in GMO's. Take care and stay healthy.

  9. Good Morning Kaye – Revitalizing the garden beds in the fall is always a cluster if you know what I mean. LOL Job well done and glad you got some much needed help before the weather comes. When getting my gardens ready and using any kind of fertilizers or soil conditioners, I try to use some kind of mask as some of them can cause respiratory issues later on with regular exposure. Just got frost free faucets outside too last year and had no problems since. Stay warm and Merry Christmas..

  10. Bravo dear lady…You are a great inspiration for 'us' who aspire to keep growing and trying new things! God Bless us ALL through this weather event that is coming. Merry Merry Christmas! (from Ohio)

  11. Kaye your videos help me so much! I’ve got some young blueberry bushes in containers and have wrapped them with burlap. Do you think I should do anything else for them? I’m in eastern Georgia and we are hunkering down too. I also have a few collard plants. Do those need to be covered? I’m so new to all of this and I want to do it right. You seem to have it figured out. Thank you for all your help to us all!

  12. Well done Kaye! After watching you work so diligently, I think I need to go have a cup of coffee now! 😁

  13. HELLO SMART AND BEAUTIFUL, I can't even imagine living in California not, I see it as a wreck waiting to happen, I'm going on 70 years old and don't have the patients for what they're doing, I was raised on lookout mountain and everyone was a preacher and I guess some of that rubbed off on me, anyways thanks for asking, GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS AND MERRY CHRISTMAS.

  14. Wow! I’m tired just watching!! What a big before and after! I’m sure you slept well that night!!! Don’t forget to let your faucets drip a little over this frigid weekend!! Our area in North Georgia will have lows between 11° and 16°…definitely not normal for us!!! Praying everyone’s power stays on!! Stay safe and warm Kaye!! ❤

  15. Wow Kaye, you are so inspiring! To see you out in the nasty weather getting ready for next year, just encourages me so much! Merry Christmas sweetheart!

  16. I'm 74 and bending over to work is no longer on the menu. If it were I, I would have leveled the ground and left most of the weeds, covering them with a layer of cardboard, then a layer of 1/4" hardware cloth (the ultimate in mole / vole protection), some charcoal and then more soil, enough to fill the NEW raised bed after adding enough new height, so instead of nearly touching my toes, I could merely lean a bit forward to plant and harvest.

I'm spoiled. I invested my time and money building a heated greenhouse with shelves holding 3-gallon wicking tubs.

Edit: Potatoes are MUCH more easily grown in a gunny sack or any other flexible container where the sides collapse, by growing in 100% mulch.

As the seeds put on leaves, you raise the sides and add more mulch. Keep 'em moist and when full, wait for blooms, then yank down the container sides to see all your potatoes without having to dig at all.

This allows you to grow the equivalent amount of potatoes as you could in an entire raised bed, but on a patio or someplace too rocky for a garden and MUCH easier – fun too.

  17. Wow, you got potatoes planted! And you have onions and Strawberries and Asparagus. Plus winterizing everything too! What a productive day!

  18. I made a similar experiment with my potatoes 🥔 the frost was here already but I didn't have a chance to check how they are because my garden/allotment is far away. Strawberries 🍓 don't mind the cold in winter. My parents lived in an area where -18 F were quite normal and each year we could harvest many 🍓🍓🍓 While you've been working your cats were busy as well climing the trees and walking up and down the catwalk 💛🐈😉

  19. Thankyou kaye for very busy and interesting video gain, you have been such a busy bee, well done, whaw,aw!hello to those lovely kitties too.xxbye for n now.god bless 🙏

  20. Very interesting – I can't wait to follow along to see how your potatoes do!!! I'm in midlands of SC and have my potatoes planted in a small greenhouse. Ps – love the music and vid of how the day progressed. Good luck through this storm, and Merry Christmas! Ps I've tried to find a Po box to send the lemongrass plants you said you wanted, but it is not in the about tab. If you still want them just let me know. Angie, Charleston

  21. Free advice: Take in more firewood than you regularly would burn. Also consider if too much ice you may lose power. Glad you have the wood stove insert plus your propane. You also have prepped for losing lights and power. Keep warm. Keep all your kitties warm. Be safe and have a wonderful Christmas! Best to you.
