β€œIn looking back we remember only the triumphant consummation of each season. Failures and frustrations are forgotten; garden-memories are as perfect as garden-hopes.” -Patience Strong

  1. Janey, I can’t believe you did this wonderfully long involved recap video during the holidays! Go you,Thank you it was great.
My personal comment about the front swoop. I love the raised stone capped border. I think it adds such charm to your garden (keeping it visible with maybe just a touch of plant material draping over the edge.
The sweet potato vine and supertunia? Overtook that edge!!! Wonderful but I think that lovely stone hard scape deserves to be seen a bit. Just my 2 cents. Thank you again and enjoy this season.

  2. Excellent video, Janie. I can not imagine the time and effort it cost to make this, but it was very enjoyable.

  3. I don’t know about the raised cut flower beds. You spent all this time/money on amending it, testing it, improving it to not even end up using it? Maybe half raised beds half in the ground.

  4. Good morning my friend. Thank you for taking us along on this tour. Love the look back. Yes gardens are always a work in progress. One is never satisfied with the results from year to another. Also sometimes more shade or more sunny spots to change the plants. The oak leaves are one leaf that does not break down easily unless you break it up and apply some blood meal for faster breakdown. Leaving the leaves normal size will be like that come the spring. Anyway enjoy the rest of your day. You think it is cold in your area, Come the Vancouver, BC and wake up in -9 degrees this morning and snowing.

  5. I live in ND and am looking forward to watching you during your "winter months" lol. It was -24 below zero this morning -46 below zero with wind chill factored in . I know, crazy right?

  6. You truly are amazing and I love watching all your videos .. this look back was incredible! And I absolutely love your blue plumbago… I would hate to see it go! Lol… it is a massive beaty! Anyways the changes and all the updates are absolutely gorgeous 😍… bless you and your sweet family! A blessed and beautiful Christmas to all!!! πŸ’•

  7. That was fascinating Janey. Thank you so much for sharing everything you have done this year! We are -31* Celsius here in zone 3b Manitoba Canada, so not much going on in the garden for us till the end of May! πŸ₯Ά. Thank goodness I can Garden vicariously through you! πŸŽ„πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

  8. Love this Janey! It's amazing the changes from month to month. I recently did a similar video where I did a look back on the 2022 garden, as I filmed my last garden tour of 2022. Here in the northeast (zone 6), it's pretty dreary out in the garden at the moment. So while it took me nearly 30 hours of editing that video, I so loved looking back at my garden through the whole garden season. It made me fall in love with my garden all over again and excited for 2023's garden. Merry Christmas my friend!

  9. What a great video! I know I tend to forget the sunny days of summer in this cold gloom we’ve had lately! I miss that monster pennisetum!! πŸ˜‚

  10. I love the look back! It was great seeing the changes. Although, I watch all of your videos so I kinda new about the changes. I think your gardens are very beautiful. You can tell that you take great pride in what you do.

  11. I know what you mean about the plumbago…in my zone (10a) they get to be 8ft tall and 10ft wide. When removing the plant you have to get every little piece of root or it will keep coming back. I had one back in the 1990's that took 2 growing seasons to purge from the garden. Happy Holidays and thank you for the daily videos.

  12. I heard you say on this video that you removed the gravel rocks from one of the beds and that it took lots of elbow grease. I need to do this in one of my beds, much smaller though. Do you have any tips for getting the gravel out? I've started by just shoveling it, but much of it has become dug into the soil so is hard to get out without taking a lot of dirt with it. Any advice is appreciated. BTW – I love how real you are on your videos. Good, bad and ugly, you share it all.

  13. Maybe where the plumbago is still you should do some sort of evergreen?? Narrow one or something sort of airy

  14. I think I will take your suggestion and video my front and back yards next year. It is a great tool to see how many things change, and whether there are any spots that need more color/interest. I love the oak garden, especially the ferns. I always think of ferns as needing moisture, but yours are very happy!

  15. Do you think your cottage bed could be like the cut flower area and is lacking some nutrients? I cant wait to see what you do this coming year!

  16. I’m in upstate SC Our temps are dipping below zero on Friday the 23rd. Not that low since 1986!!!Also just saw where Northern California had a 6.5 earthquake! Gonna miss you next week. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas! πŸ’šπŸŽ„β€οΈ
