  1. All the increased solar particles coming in lately seem to be giving me something like hot flashes! Even Hubs is having a few with ringing in his ears, which is a new thing. Good thing is I don't get so cold so easy. 🙂Such a good harvest!

We are planning on using a couple of those oil-filled radiator heaters for chickens and hoop house. Not something I'd usually do, but this seems like it's going to be several days of sub-freezing temps.

Sounds like you got it all covered. Be careful! We aren't used to this much cold, so we gotta ease into it.

    Love and hugs to y'all.

  2. Good mornin'! I am coveting thy neighbor's pickins. Hope to have my greenhouse up soon. Already thinking about potato planting. Y'all have a good sunny day!

  3. Good morning I wish you all the best. You both are very hard working and have a passion for everything.
    God Bless

I live in WVand if the electric goes off with the winds we’re supposed to get I have gas heat and a fire place.
I bought this gas stove last year and had it mounted on my wall. Take care and stay warm.

  4. Thank you for the information. Wishing you, your family and your garden well. Have a blessed holiday.

  5. I have a 4 month old puppy that doesn't like cold… I've never had a dog before so I'm trying to figure out how to get him to potty outside when it's cold!

  6. Good morning those were great looking peppers. Hope you can save all your plants. God bless you 🙏 and yours.

  7. Hey Jill 😃

  8. Great tips! I’m a little further south (Deep East Texas) and I’m headed out the door to my little green house to see what I can pick and prep before our freeze. Y’all stay warm & safe and hope y’all have a Merry Christmas.

  9. Beautiful peppers! I've got 2 inside I'm trying to overwinter. So far they are doing fine. I've got 2 loquat trees that I'm going to put in a shed to try not to lose them. They do fine in the 20's but I'm afraid going down to 10 might kill them.

  10. The optimal word is FREEZING COLD!! I hope everyone is taking this Siberian Express seriously and getting your final preparations done. I'm topping off my propane tanks, grabbing additional charcoal, topping off gasoline cans and vehicles, we have plenty of split firewood and probably grab some additional 1 lb propane bottles for the Mr Heaters and camp stove. Topping off the pantry and grabbing Christmas food items this weekend too. Ecoflow MAX is at 100% and will check the gasoline generator this afternoon. Your high and low tunnels are certainly paying you dividends!!

  11. Jill, Mr. Leon- Gardening with Leon, says that every layer above your plants will raise the temp 6 to 10 degrees above the ambient temps. If you don't have any- pop out and grab some clear, lawn and leaf bags, or barrel bags, poke a stick beside each plant as a tent stake…Cover those peppers..That will add one more layer of protection. Also, you will not need to remove the bags until the weather warms up. Stay warm..It looks like we are going to have a freezing Christmas here as well! We went from 34, down to 32, then down to 31..and now, 30 next weekend.. That's a bit chilly for us Fl. folks..Going to have to bust out some socks. 😆😆

  12. I’m glad you mentioned the fact that the garage can get down to freezing, I have a lemon tree in my garage and I definitely need to bring it inside so it doesn’t freeze. Also, never heard of that hot water heater can burst if it gets too cold. Will talk to hubby about this. Stay warm, Jill!

  13. Good info Jill…thanks for staying in touch with all of us. It makes it easier to have others to 'ground' with—especially if you're trying to wrangle-tangle through this solo.
Are you saying you fill the barrels with water then put the compost around them? I'm not aware of this 'heat producer.'

Would everyone pray that the Lord would keep it from getting as cold as they say it is…or that it moves through much more quickly than they figured it would be here. Due to some unethical thing that happened…I am left with only a tiny bit of propane. I know God can make it stretch and I am wracking my brain to keep everybody warm as well as pipes intact.
Praying for everyone…especially folks who lost loved ones due to the grid down in Feb. '21. Jesus bless.

  14. Have some tomatoes just starting to turn in the greenhouse and a lot of others are still green. Going to try and keep the greenhouse above freezing. May wait a few days to see how things go and plan on making green tomato salsa. Blessings!

  15. You might also consider painting those barrels black to absorb more heat from any sunlight you get. Not looking forward to this system coming through for sure!!

  16. Hello from Collin county. You guys stay safe and warm. Where did you get your barrels? I’m going to build some waist high beds splitting the barrels down the middle. Thanks.

  17. I'm sure you've tried row cover and I'm wondering what your experience was with it. ( When you get a minute…) Thanks!

  18. I'm not looking forward to this upcoming week and frigid temperatures. We're supposed to get into the single digits 🥶

  19. So Right It is very Brisk down south of y'all 28 degrees this morning. We are supposed to get down to 17 degrees and yes the forecasters are going back and forth the weather channel however on our phones say we are getting down to 10 degrees overnight.

  20. Jill looks like your doing all you can do. We covered everything that we could and our peppers in 5 gallon will be in the shed. Nice harvest on your peppers, what's your plan with them? canning, pickles, drying? Stay warm, we will make it through this. God Bless, Mike
