In summer, @expressionsofgracebonsai wondered whether it is possible to take late summer cuttings of trident maple. We did a synchronized trial and present the results in this video, each using slightly different methods. Who had a better outcome? What substrate did better? Join and see!

You two have done such a great job with this one! Outstanding and this just brought me so much joy to watch. Thank you for sharing this!
Ha Ha Funny!
Congrats to the winner!
And didn’t know that Xavier rhymes with caviar!
I put some few data ago…. lets see what happens…. the interaction is so funny!!! I use a cheap greenhouse I made with a plastic box.
So much fun! Great collab Jelle and Xavier! 🤣😂🐦💙
Great video!!! I will try hardwood cuttings. I think @BlueJayBonsai should accept the challenge!!!!
Ya’ll are too funny!! 😂
I had good success with trident winter cuttings up to pencil thickness and around 80cm long just stuck in the ground and they root without hormone or care
Loved it to bits 🙂 and so good to see you two not taking things too seriously.
Bonsai can be very challenging, so to recognise it as the fun pastime that it is, is really important.
Loling all the way through this! 😁😂😉🪴💚
Lol loved this one. What is that grey putty you put on your trees to seal the wounds called?
Best video ever 😂
👍👌🙂
Just watched it again Jelle. Thanks ever so much for hosting me and I really hope you don't lose too many people for doing that great bit of charity work. The return colaboration is up in a week with our 'collecting yamadori' special. Cheers, Xav
I wonder which medium (sphagnum moss or vermiculite ( would be the best for growing the cuttings after they are rooted)? Would it be better to put the cuttings into individual small) pots initially so they can develop without having to disturb them by having to repot? It is very disappointing to finally have some success when taking cuttings and then watch them fade away. Perhaps it's a whole subject on its own. It is disappointing if you finally have some (limited) success and watch them fade away. Thanks in advance for any advice (love this channel)
Creative and funny video! Loved it fellas!
hahahah, nice video
LOL, quality
Tolles Video , schade das die Stecklinge keine wurzeln gemacht haben. war es zu nass oder was genau war das Problem ?
Grüsse Tom
I took about 20 late fall cuttings of Japanese maples–all in water. the 10 or so that I placed an air stone/pump in all produced roots; none of the others without an air stone/pump lived.
Very interesting video Jelle!
I'm sooo reluctant to use moss or peat though, because wetlands are so important for the climate and shouldn't be exploited. Maybe the vermiculite was just too wet?
Excellent. Nice seeing you both working together to create a fun light-hearted video.
