Planning the Perfect Vegetable Garden



On Thursday, February 3, 2022, Darien Library welcomed expert farmers Allison Villa and Miranda Gould to share their best practices for planning a year’s garden in advance.

Preparing for this summer’s vegetable crop starts right this very moment. Whether you are planning for pumpkins, potatoes or peas, the experts from Homefront Farmers, authorities in home organic vegetable gardening, will steer you in the right direction.

Homefront Farmers is a Redding, CT based company that specializes in the design, building and maintenance of custom at-home vegetable gardens throughout Fairfield, Litchfield and Westchester Counties. They are passionate about bringing all the benefits of an edible organic vegetable garden to the homeowner. They also offer “a la carte gardening” consultations with people who have existing vegetable gardens.

About the Presenters
Allison Villa is originally from Stamford, CT, and fell in love with farming and the magic of growing food after she took a summer internship on a farm in New Haven. After earning a B.S. in Environmental Science from UConn, she worked on several ecological projects throughout the state, taught in school gardens, and most recently, led a successful career in nonprofit management. Allison is excited to be back in the dirt and can’t wait to bring the joy of home gardens to you & yours.

Miranda Gould received a BA in Anthropology and Music from St. Olaf College in 2009. She discovered her love of organic gardening and farming after organizing an elder community garden for The National Society for American Indian Elderly (AmeriCorps VISTA) in Maine. She has also worked as a gardener for Vonne’s Victory Gardens in Westport, interned at Sleeping Frog Farms, in Tucson, AZ and has a certificate in Permaculture from The Finger Lakes Permaculture Institute, part of Cornell University’s Cooperative Extension. Miranda has been with Homefront Farmers since its inception in 2012.
