Front Yard Garden

Cutting Firewood on our Small Dairy Farm

Things slow down on the farm on Sundays. Other than our regular chores, the only thing Alan has planned is to cut some firewood for our outdoor wood stove. While heading back to the woods, Alan stops at an abandoned farm site and shows that all that’s left is the house foundation and a crumbled barn foundation. Farther back still, Alan gets to where he is cutting firewood, which also happens to be very close to the beautiful Kettle River.

Trinity Dairy was established in 2006, in Minnesota. Alan and Jennifer farm with their 5 children; Jessica, Justin, Jordan, Joshua, and Jason. We milk a mix of 33 Jersey, Holstein, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, and Ayrshire cattle. We also enjoy sharing our family’s love of Draft Horses and using them for logging and other farm work. Dairy Farming in Minnesota can be challenging, but it’s a lifestyle we really enjoy. Subscribe today to watch our small family dairy farm and family grow while continuing to thank our Lord for the blessings we’ve been given.

  4. Well that was another nice visit to the trinity dairy. The only problem I see with the cut as you go method is if you get a big snow youll be fighting your way out to the wood. Hopefully you can get ahead of it !! Merry Christmas everyone!!!

  6. I enjoyed the video and thanks for the history lesson. Your woodlot sure looks a lot like ours but we don't have evergreens growing here. We have the roseau river going by our property.

  9. Thanks for sharing that peaceful sound. I also don’t like to cut my firewood in the summer heat. Much better when it is cooler outside.

  10. Old homesteads always fascinated me and makes me sad to think of how quick someone's lifetime of work can disappear from the world so soon.

  11. Great video! I cut wood whenever I can. We always thought you can never have enough wood or feed for the cows. I like staying a year or two ahead on the wood. This is the most time we have for it too since crops are harvested. Mostly back and forth to the barn this time of year. God bless!
