Family House Search in Cambridgeshire | Location Location Location| All Homes

A look back at a search that really was a family affair, with new parents Mary and David looking for a home close to Mary’s sister in Cambridgeshire.

Property professionals like Phil Spencer and Kirsty Allsopp know all the secrets of successful house-hunting: being clear about what you want, aiming high and, above all, being prepared to compromise.
Our experts work to a brief of must-have attributes: number of bedrooms, character property or new build, but the most important aspect is always… Location, Location, Location! From auction houses and estate agencies, to websites and word-of-mouth, they leave no stone unturned in their quest for the best. They then have the unpredictable task of showing the house-hunters around a shortlist of properties that appear to fit the bill. Will they have judged their tastes correctly? Do these people even know what they want?

  1. The first house Phil showed was not my idea of a great house and it was made worse by the road. The first house Kirstie showed was lovely. The wife saying that it is too far from their church made my hair stand on end. It is a 10 minute drive! That means a 30 minute walk. I have to drive further than that just to get to the pharmacy I use. Good grief. Then the second house is 12 minutes from Oakington. Yikes.

  2. Big mistake. Never live with inlaws, or parents. Grow up and live on your own. Just facts of life.

  3. I just can’t understand the British mentality . They always have to live in each other’s pockets. It’s so far she says, but here in Canada I go that distance every week to grocery shop. My family is all 45 minutes to an hour and a half away. I guess it’s whatever you’re used to.

  4. What a fantastic show! I wish there were a Phil and Kirstie near me. "Where there's a Phil, there's a way."

  5. I really like the red wreaths best because you can see them so much better. The whole area looks so nice. Thank you Laura.

  6. love the show, the camaraderie, the properties – even the b-roll is entertaining!
