This SECRET INGREDIENT Gives Life to Your Soil – and it’s DAY TWO of our 31 Days of Giving! Indoor winter gardening series zone 5 gardening

Day 02 of our 31 Days of Guten Gardening Gardening Gift Giving is about our indoor raised bed and how we rejuvenate our mix in this bed to prepare for the vegetables we are going to plant this winter indoor gardening season.

If you want to take part in the giveaways, watch this video here to learn how:

In this video we talk about how we built our indoor raised bed and some of the modifications we have made to it the past two seasons to improve the performance of the bed.

In addition, we look at how we approach revitalizing the potting mix in the bed in order to make sure there is enough life and nutrients in the medium so we can ensure bumper crop production in the bed.

One of the ways we do that is using our vermicompost setup where our red wigglers are hard at work composting our kitchen waste and creating worm castings that we can place directly in the bed, or use to make worm compost tea.

There is so much to learn in the indoor garden, and we hope you enjoy learning with us.

Congratulations to our day 2 Gardening Giveaway winner!

  1. Congratulations Elaine.
I have my worm bin in the garage, I am hoping my worms survive the winter, I've been feeding them lots of veggies. Still so much to learn.

  2. Congrats Elaine! Diy worm bin setup is great and all the details are helpful. Nice to see growing medium is natural and organic.

  3. One of the most valuable things that I take away from your channel is how to use my limited resources to make the most of my backyard garden, which has become my favorite activity since I retired four years ago.

  4. Good to see your process and I'm happy to see that mine is pretty similar – I must be doing something right.
    And congrats to Elaine!

  5. Worms are so cool, I love how nature works in a perfect circle. I definitely wanna hear more about this in the future! Congrats to the winner!

  6. Congratulations to Elaine 🎉. I don’t know worm compost is great I love to use it. But actually keeping the worms for some reason gives me the hebee geebees. I’ll keep buying mine 😂

  7. Congratulations Elaine. This is something I would've loved to have. What a headstart with your seeds. Awesome.
I think it would be great if you could do more regarding vermiculture. It is a new area for me. I think it is a great help having almost free, organic supplements for your plants. It makes the difference, I have seen with other gardeners in my community.

  8. Congratulations to the winner. Wish it was me, but I can't be a winner if I didn't enter. So I guess this is my comment to put me in the running for number three.:-) I love your Channel and I am on team potato.

  9. I haven’t been to successful in growing in doors but I haven’t given up but you gave great info The greenstalk is a great idea

  10. I am amazed by your worm castings. Can we put the African night crawlers directly in my garden? I am afraid they might eat my root crops. Thanks.

  11. I have always wanted to try worm compost but have wondered what you do with it in the winter. I'm in Wisconsin too. Does it stink if you bring it inside?

  12. I had built a 3 or 4 tier worm bin out of buckets in years past, but for whatever reason I found it more of a hassle. And because I have chickens I figured I was getting enough compost/bacteria for my garden and gave away the bin. I may need to rethink this 🙂

  13. I am always looking to you for every & any ideas when it comes to gardening. I’ve mentioned to you before I am north Illinois (next to Monroe, WI) and getting ready for 2024 where my homestead and gardening journey will begin . Thank you for EVERYTHING and keep the knowledge coming 👍😇

  14. Congratulations to you that's so awesome! Having a worm system set up will most definitely help you! mine has done so much for my gardening! My plants are so much healthier this year cause of the compost from my worm bin.

  15. Thanks for sharing. I am trying my hand at indoor gardening for the first time and can use all the tips and tricks I can get.

  16. I always get new ideas from your videos. Thank you. I've had worms for a couple of years. Kinda fun.
Do you collect the liquid from the drains for worm tea?
