How to make a winter window box

For the last several years I’ve done a variation on this design for the window box, but I still love it.

The elusive cherry lights are by Lumineo. I found a great deal on them at Wayfair earlier this year, but they are sold out there. Since they seem to come and go quickly from stores, your best bet is to just search online for “Lumineo Cherry Lights.” I wish I could be of more help!

My name is Erin and I love sharing inspiration and information with real-life gardeners. I live and garden in southeastern Wisconsin, zone 5b.

  1. Hey Erin its Lisa not Craig haha, his computer. Two kitties ? They are so cute !! Names? Are they indoor only kitties? They def do not approve lol . Love that window box you have done – looks real lovely

  2. The window box is gorgeous! Off-topic question, do the deer eat your red/yellow twig dogwood? We planted some and the deer have been munching on them since the spring. It’s really annoying.

  3. If something isn’t broke don’t “fix” it. The window box is beautiful as always🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄💚🙃

  4. Love it! The ring is a wonderful touch! Thanks for teaching us what not to do with the foam…drilling holes would be a pain. But well worth it, it turned out beautiful!

  5. Wow, Erin, it looks beautiful! Love everything you put in the box and the ring with the lights really tops it off!

  6. Love this windowbox!! This year I especially love the peeping Toms that are supervising every move! 😂
    Seriously, it’s a beautiful display !❤️🎄

  7. Got my ring made after watching last year's video, thank you for the inspiration! Thankful for my dh who helps with all my "can you just" requests in the garden. I used solar mini lights because I don't have an easy access to an outlet, love the magnolia leaves

  8. Erin….what lights are on the ring?? They look like there's multi lights on a bunch of different strands?? Gorgeous, just like last year.

  9. Your window box looks great. Deborah Silver of Detroit Garden Works, has amazing designs for winter containers and window boxes in a similar climate zone.

  10. Pretty! I like this display too, and since you only get to see it once a year, go for it. It must be getting cold out because you’ve got your hat on Erin. 🙂

  11. Love it! The cherry lights are beautiful in this window box as a perfect finishing touch!

  12. Wow! Stunning, as pretty during the day as at night. And hobbit approved.

  13. White pine makes the best “skirt” and adds a softness to any evergreen arrangement. Today I did potted evergreen arrangements with my friend by partially “ deboning “ my White Pine and three evergreens in a her yard. 😉🙌

  14. Beautiful job! The ring is the best! I think your window box is best of all my YT channels! 😍🥰😆
