Pentax users have no time. They're doing photos. 😛
you have so many excellent cameras, but your youtube video still on 1080p 60 fps. Please add 4K !
Is DSLR Dead?
I’m not seeing any update on big bodies
Locking into any system is not such a problem nowadays with mirror less cameras and adaptors so that glass can be swapped.
Yes OM systems is not the top innovator, but it is all about the size. I have $100K worth of Sony stuff but I still pick the OM for a two month trip to Europe for example because it is great to travel with and just get the shots. The greater depth of field even works to advantage as I do not need to stop down as much and thus not increase ISO as much in my travel shooting. I could go on.
I'm baffled you didn't talk about Canon not allowing third-party RF lenses, since it's a real issue especially on a budget
Canon, I believe just released their most important camera, the R6mkII that simply does everything a hybrid shooter needs. Canon will lose a lot of their revenue streams in 2023 with the end of the DSLR era, so they need this camera to be a huge hit the way the A7III was for Sony. They also need to somehow backpaddle the lens issue and license their AF tech to at least one other lens manufacturer to calm people's anxieties.
Lots of people switch to Olympus from the other 3
Come on guy's… poking Pentaxians is not Cool Christmas Carma…LOL.
Hmm… Keizen in Fuji has turned into $$$, Japanese equipment is made in China, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia… Only Canon makes L lenses and bodies in Japan. In my opinion, every brand is distinguished to some extent. Olympus (never used) on paper is a demon of innovation and automatic solutions (photos of stars, panoramas, photos and exposure with a long time, upscaling); Fuji with its colors and color simulations, Nikon with the basics for professional use (even the 70-200 and 100-400 have two-screw feet) and the best software releases NX, Snapbridge etc. Try to find it on Canon. I think I like the Canon I use for its simplicity and readability. However, DDP and similar software stopped in the 1990s. By looking and using the hardware of a given brand, you can see which departments are supported and which are not funded.
i think between sony and canon the difference is on the lenses wether you want third party lenses or not. and what you already own.
@tony remember for the last two years you said that Nikon would go out of business …. Bahahahsha
I enjoy your sit-down discussions. The "mini-van" analogy was spot on!
I still waiting for Sony A1 big firmware update
Would have liked to hear more about pricing, the $ entry point into Canon & Sony for PRO equipment seem prohibitive for experienced enthusiasts
“Fuji is not innovanting” – yeah… not even a month has passed and released highest mp aps-c sensor, with 56 1.2wr – so far the sharpest lens in entire camera industry, with cheapest (almost 2x) stacked sensor… 😂 boy oh boy do these two need to stop drinking…
I think your analysis of Canon & Nikon result is incorrect, the decrease is mainly due to their DSLR sales decreasing and not totally cause of Sony taking shares from them, both C & N have increased their mirrorless market shares and Canon lens sales are thru the roof as they do have the best glass overall.
Sold my Sony a7r4a and 200-600 to om systems, because the Sony was JUNK. Slow and noisy sensor. Sony abandoned firmware feature updates. Enjoy a dustless sensor, 1000mm reach and baby A1 focus
I tink Lumix will have phase detect autofocus in 2023 because Leica push them that way. The CEO of Panasonic sait it will consider phase detect autofocus for future product. If the CEO said it. It is because they already have something in the pipeline. If they don't Leica will close it's mirorless line or go somewhere else for manufacturing their mirrorless product and Panasonic will cease camera production. Excuse me for my english it is not my first language.
Pentax will have hand made product like Leica and Pentax is the favorite brand of camera in Japan.
Pentax is fun to use. Sony is boring but they have better product.
I'm really surprised that in the Sony vs. Canon discussion you didn't raise the issue of Canon restricting the use of third-party lenses. You were sufficiently upset about that in a previous video that you put me off the brand, and given the huge range of lens options for Sony I would have expected you to declare Sony the clear winner between the two.
I used a Sony a7III for 2 years and was ready to update to the a7Iv but a didn't like the Max of 10 fps and no stacked sensor..roling shutter and wanted a good electronic shutter, .so a bought a used A9 instead a love it…the tracking is great👌hoping for a A9III for 2023 ///// greets from the Netherlands
Uh – Leica?
Good analysis. I agree with your final words about Canon and Sony, the minivan analogy sticks. It's true that Canon is an ultra stable and reliable system, but at the same time not as exciting to use, but it works very well. Sony always seems to come up with cool and exciting solutions and designs.
Reading through the comments, I see there are Olympus lovers out there. Tony's fan-boy observation sticks. The OM1's are kind of cool though. They are really robust tanks that are reliable with less innovation, but solid repetition.
I like your discussion, really fun. I can see you both creating/organizing a live forum-style gear talk! It would be cool to expand the conversation with your audience…. food for thought! Kudos!
I honestly could care less about social media… I still laugh about Instagram and Tik Tok is worse.
Love you guys!
I was hoping you would discuss about Canon not allowing 3rd party manufacturers into their ecosystem. I wonder if Canon are shooting themselves in the foot and lose more market share because of this.
Leica?
Great sharing.
Hi I used Nikon, Sony and Canon. Here are my thoughts:
1. Sony is the safest recommendation as they are ahead in mirrorless tech and there are so many affordable and good third-party lenses.
2. Canon is my 2nd recommendation. As what Chelsea mentioned, they surprises us with new bodies and leapfrog everyone. The release of r7, r10 and r6mII are good examples. Only concern is the locked lens ecosystem.
3. Nikon is a 3rd as they still only have a Z9 (as of now Dec 2022) that is fast enough to match the best of Sony or Canon. Lens-wise they are catching up with Sony quickly with cheaper trinity lenses (rebranded Tamrons) and a slew of 3rd party primes like viltrox. All eyes are on their future camera releases.
I'm sorry, but its really difficult to watch this and feel like its a credible video when the quality of the video is so, so poor
All this talk of Pentax has me thinking about copping a K3-III. Too bad it’s not easily available in my country.
so, because of idiots like you and majority of youtubers with this kind of videos, every camera is not enough good for work and creating astonishing photos!????
You should start making videos about art photography, not about fucking technical aspects of cameras only!!!
Why??
Because, learning photography matters, not tech details of every fucking camera .
Good camera or bad camera will not make you good photographer!!
Sony is still too hard to use….so why do you scare young people with recommending Sony cameras?
It's such a shame that Sony doesn't do anything about this… They tried but it stopped.
In my opinion, all three do far too little to survive…Cameras are getting more and more expensive because sales are going down.
Mirrorless became a breather because they become cheaper to manufacture… But Mobile Phones have meant that system cameras are soon only for real enthusiasts and highly paid photographers…. I'm starting to think that camera news is uninteresting because the development now seems to stop… .Are cameras good enough for the long term? Yes! I would probably say. …But maybe not good enough in the dark….That and one more thing is probably the only thing missing…to get a real all-round camera that last… That other thing is that all the mechanical stuff disappears… with a higher speed of sensor reading. … As a Canon user, there is no such camera yet… Not a Sony either. Only Nikon has dared to come up with something really lasting… even if the Z9 needs many updates, it is still the one that feels most future-proof… nothing mechanical that finally gives up….
Canon R5 II seems now just…Too old to be future-proof.
Canon wait. ..because soon we maybe only buy updates to a camera and replace it only If something bad happens with it….
Just because all cameras become too expensive to buy.
When a mobilephone is good enough. 😒😮😯😔
Canon, great camera, bad company/management—terrible, actually.
They apparently learned nothing from Detroit auto manufacturing in the 1970s. It's called hubris, people
Therefore, Sony will continue to steal their lunch.
PLUS, they can't abandon their antiquated philosophy.
Personally, I won't buy a camera from a company that hates me.
Who am I? I'm a video shooter that uses hybrid mirrorless cameras.
Why does Canon hate me? Because they show they hate making hybrid cameras, and do so only because Sony has forced them to do so.
But they punish those video shooters who do by making it totally awkward and inconvenient from Video shooters to use their mirrorless hybrids. There's nothing worse and more awkward than getting a new white balance on a Canon hybrid—no matter what the price! Meanwhile, Sony, fuji, and Panasonic continue to make their hybrid cameras easier and easier to use.
Canon get rid of your crazy philosophy. Let other companies make lenses. Otherwise, you will be losing more and more market share to a company that listens and REPONDS!
CANON: great cameras, bad company, bad, loser management with antiquated, hubristic ideals.
