Plant lover Mark Veeder gets a thrill from going to garden conferences and talks and finding interesting or new plants to try to grow. “I’ll drive 600 miles in a day for a plant,” Veeder says.

This is one of his favorite vignettes at his garden in Upstate New York. The combination includes ‘Caramel’ coral bells, variegated Japanese Jack-in-the-pulpit, dark green leaves of an unknown variety of double black hellebore, and Ilex crenata ‘Golden Gem’, with flowering ‘Orange Gnome’ campion.
