As an avid gardener, Danielle, is eager to grow a new variety of legumes and seeks expert advice from Misty Newcomb. In this episode, Danielle and Misty uncover the importance of seed saving and seed diversity. By understanding the significance of the purple hull pea in the South, they learn how seeds represent our past, provide hope for the future, and are a link to our local community. Together, they prepare the purple hull pea in a traditional Southern recipe, but also find interesting new ways of working with the legume.

  1. Whatever the Newcomb's are doing is working. They look great. Youthful and energetic. Faith, family, friends, and quality forage. Godless.

  2. I love the diversity of content that has come from MeatEater. Keep it up!

  3. Wish we would grow low cost hunting clothes 😐also everything grown in the south didn't come from slaves😐

  5. A sad side effect of today's "outdoorsman" is the lack of knowledge in full circle sustainability. No this is not necessarily what Meateater has historically produced but is absolutely rooted in the same spirit of self procurement. Please keep it up.

  6. Wow comments section. Channel some of that angst towards PETA not this channel.. It's a free YouTube for crying out loud. It's called diversification, you know when you only hunt but then realize that veggies are good for you and might die if you don't eat some. The title isn't misleading. I enjoyed it, I'd like some peas and I'm not a gardener.

  7. It just dawned on me this year when my Cucumbers from the South didn't grow well in VT duh !
Thank you for bringing that up πŸ‘.
    Yummy dishes !

  8. Leave it to the woman to "try something new" why TF did you add relish to greens before you tired em!? Absolute blasphemy!!!! Don't come south south with that BS

  9. My dad back in the 70s grew 2 heirloom types of dried peas both of which we have lost seeds of. Clay peas which were popular in the civil war era. My favorite was Rice Peas which were a tiny lady pea variety (maybe one third the side of a black eye pea) they were so labor intensive to shell them but the taste was so delicate. Baker Creek sold them both a few yrs ago but I think have since discontinued the rice pea.

  10. So, Miss Danielle is the Missy Newcomb greens recipe on the Wild & Whole website? Would love to try greens that way.
