2020 John W. Gardner Award: Webb McKinney (XV)

Webb McKinney (Class XV) is one of two individuals receiving the 2020 John W. Gardner Award at this year’s Exemplary Leadership Celebration on September 1st.

Webb began his career at HP when David Packard and Bill Hewlett ran the company. McKinney held numerous engineering management and executive positions at HP, running HP’s entry into consumer PCs, and going on to lead its entire PC business. McKinney later led worldwide sales, marketing and supply chains for all of HP’s commercial customers. Before retiring from HP in 2003, McKinney was the executive vice president responsible for HP’s integration of Compaq.

He is a co-founder and board member of the Encore Fellows program, which has become an incredibly important organization and encourages executives to engage in their communities – building bridges between leaders and their communities. McKinney is passionate about building bridges between diverse communities and has served on the board and executive communities of ALF, SVEF, and RAFT. McKinney is currently a consultant in merger integration and leadership development.

Since 1994, American Leadership Forum Silicon Valley Senior Fellows have presented the John W. Gardner Leadership Award to those among them who best exemplify the following criteria:

• Represent the spirit of ALF by inspiring and motivating other leaders to get involved;
• Serve as bridge builders between diverse community segments and leaders;
• Present track records as collaborative leaders who identify and deal with complex and difficult issues;
• Demonstrate ALF core values of diversity, inclusiveness, civility, engagement, and respect.

Congratulations Webb!
