  1. I’m fortunate, my garden is so full of worms every shovel full digs up worms.
I don’t spread fertilizer on the garden, I spread it on the leaves being composted.
Weeds aware my biggest struggle – will be putting in some raised beds next year just to try and minimize it.
Love your content, am learning lots. Someday I hope to add solar, but sunlight hours here aren’t great.

  2. Thanks for the info Eric.
We turned our vegetable plants in October and added mulch.
We now have 2 feet of snow on the ground and are expecting another 1-2 feet next week.
Throughout the winter months we have friends over to go sledding down our mtn side and have a fire in the pit so we can gather around to get warmed up a bit before hitting the slopes again.
I then put the ashes in 5 gallon bucket’s so I can cover our garden areas for spring planting.
Most of our snow has melted by early May. I start planting seeds and keep them in our garage in early April so they’ll be strong enough to transplant when possible.
Our garage never gets below 40 degrees in the winter months, as it’s insulated.
Enjoy your day and Be Blessed!
    Doc

  3. Good information as always. We're in Virginia zone 7A. Summer cleanup is almost complete. Need to chop-n-drop some peas. I have 3 large raised beds with cover crop, so waiting a little longer before it cut that down and drop it. Ordered the last of my compost, amendments and such (yeah worm poop) for the remaining beds to work on the next 2 weeks. Thinking about adding 2 more 4×4 raised beds. That would give us 3 – 4×8, 6 – 4×4 and 2 – 3×16 raised beds for our suburban backyard. I also use about 50 grow bags for potatoes and backup plants. Gardening is WORK, but the rewards are plentiful. Keep making and sharing, we love your journey!

  4. 100% agreed, especially in these locations where majority of the year Is Cold weather winter is even busier. I am learning several types of plants that prefer cold weather. And here it is dry, high desert so winter is less difficulty with weeds!
