🍅 Did you know that there are over 10.000 different heirloom tomato varieties grown all over the world? 🤩🍅
👩🌾 unfortunately we still grow more and more hybrid varieties sold to us by big corporations making it more and more difficult for open pollinated seeds to be saved and shared 🍅
🍅 I do believe that hybrids have their place in the home gardening community and in agriculture, but there are some obvious reasons why we should be growing more heirlooms instead of hybrids 😍
👩🌾 We have the opportunity to save our own seeds every year when growing heirlooms or we support the heirloom seed companies which core values are supplying open pollinated seeds and saving the old and heirloom varieties for the home gardeners to grow, keeping and preserving diversity in the different genetics of vegetables and flowers that grow well in different climates.
🍅 Saving our own seeds we both save a bit of money and obtain a more sustainable seed supply to be shared between home gardeners creating and developing a bigger and stronger community among homesteaders and home gardeners, trying to make a small difference – to the environment, for the health of the family, to future generations, in the budget, for protecting the freedom of the people or all of the above 😍
