How to create a backyard garden wedding at home and planting Dahlias

How to create a backyard garden wedding at home and planting Dahlias

Five years ago, we hosted a DIY garden theme wedding and cocktail party, in the backyard of our New England home, and I thought I would share some of the DIY wedding things I created, including my peony wedding bouquet with jewelry accents, favors, and centerpieces made with blue, purple, and white flowers, and periwinkle butterflies.

Before I show all of that though, I am sharing how I planted Dahlia bulbs for the very first time! I learn so much from watching other YouTube videos, so I hope you learn from mine as well! Enjoy!

  1. I loved seeing your small, intimate, and meaningful wedding in your own gardens. My husband and I were married 5 years ago in the church across the street and had everyone over to our home for light refreshments afterwards. It was absolutely perfect. When we crossed the super busy street, all traffic stopped to let all of us cross (THAT was a miracle). It was SO sweet! My ring was custom made from a diamond that my husband's grandfather brought back from South America back in the 1930s. It is absolutely gorgeous and one of a kind with great sentiment. A couple years ago, we tended the family graves over Memorial Day, and I took off my ring laying it on Mark's grandfather's headstone and took a photo… it is such a cool tribute to family. Thank you so much for sharing your special moments!

  15. 5/21/22. Greetings, Linda. I jumped on to this link from your 5/16/22 video at Sugarwood where you mentioned your garden wedding. We are sure missing the Groton house. The garden space/backyard area was flatter and unified. The magic you worked in the interior of Groton, we are sure, will resurface at Sugarwood.
