How to plant raspberries in a raised garden bed // Backyard Raspberries, Chapter 2

I finally planted raspberries in my side garden! After moving some dirt around to make room in the raised bed, I checked soil PH, added some compost, fertilizer, and mulch, and then planted six raspberry bushes about 20 inches apart.

Make sure to water your raspberries immediately after planting, and check to make sure they’re not sitting in muddy, wet soil – raspberries prefer “dry feet” so you may also want to water them in the morning to ensure they dry out during the day.

Overall, it was a pretty satisfying process, and I can’t wait until these bushes are bearing fresh fruit all summer long.

DIY difficulty level: Easy – You can do this project on your own, and finish in a day. You don’t even need a raised bed! Raspberries can be planted in a low mound, or directly in the ground if your soil isn’t too wet. Just keep in mind you probably won’t see any raspberries the first year.

  2. I hope raspberries are less invasive than blackberries. I'm waging war against wild blackberry vines right now.

  3. I’ll be building one of these for my daughter. She has a huge passion for planting fruits and actually has a baby strawberry growing right now! Keep up the great work guys!

  4. Nice video! What is the benefit (if there is one) to planting the raspberries in a raised bed?

  5. Hope to win your guys merch! You guys are really great you’ve gained at least 30 subs from Ohio b/c of me and my family sharing 😅😂 you guys are soo cool keep up the great videos !!

  6. Yo
you should definitely try planting some golden raspberries
they're about the same but yellow and a bit sweeter : )

  7. You can add strawberries or some other small berry bushes around the raspberries and then put over some protective nets to ward of birds.

  8. Love the videos guys, just a handy tip, don’t water/wet the leaves of plants, while the leaves are wet and the suns up it will burn the leaves and and cause issues to the plant, Aswell as water the plants in the morning before the sun is up, there is a lot of handy tips too look up, oh and don’t water in the afternoon before it goes dark, specially if it gets really cold can cause issues again

  9. Bromigo do your knees and butt a favor. Add a 2×4 lip on your beds so you can sit and lean in.

Also, get yourself some wood chip mulch or something; I don't think that stuff is gonna keep your moisture in very well.

  10. i'm debating growing raspberries, i'm thinking if they don't get berries the first year I might just grow on patio first (save on weeding) love those beds though!

  11. I've been trying to grow raspberries straight in the ground in my clay soil, I add fertilizer and mulch… I've tried everything with zippy luck. Everything else in the garden does fantastic, but the rest of the garden is in raised beds. So I'm gonna bite the bullet and put the raspberries in raised beds too, if nothing else it will allow me to amend the soil more easily. How did yours turn out?
